The words “If you don’t stop” are considered manipulative and controlling.
The words “I am going to kick you out” are threatening and intimidating.
The words “and I will divorce you.” is an ultimatum that is both threatening, and intimidating.

Well not to put too fine a point on it guys, but as I now understand the law, if your wife becomes a Stay at Home Mother and has no income of her own, is irresponsible with money, has run up your credit cards to the maximum limit, and requires you to pay off her student debt, and you decide to severely restrict her spending money, then you can be had for domestic abuse

Damn. I’m not entirely sure what I would do in this situation. If you don’t restrict her spending you might end up in bankruptcy court. If you do restrict her spending you might end up in family law court. (If you did restrict her spending, she might divorce you and win everything anyway.)
It seems that if a woman doesn’t get what she wants, she is happy to engage the legal system which is biased in her favor.
Another reason never to get married.

In 1997 my ex-wife had severe post partum depression. She was confused and she was in charge of paying the bills. As she had just given birth, of course, despite her saying otherwise when pregnant she retired. And because she had depression we needed a full time nanny to help her care for the baby.

So when she paid all our bills twice sending us into a 5,000.00 negative bank balance I explained to her in frank language that she should no longer pay the bills until she got better.

The next morning she kissed me off to work and I came home to an empty house, my ex, the nanny and my 9 month old son were already 7 hrs away upstate.

Then she accused me of economic abuse. It didn’t stick but maybe now?

To entangle your wealth with that of anyone, male or female, is now illegal.

Marriage is now completely untenable.

This seems a bit on the extreme side, although it definitely gives an accurate impression. It is not uncommon for women to have extremely poor knowledge and understanding of economics and how debt works. It’s amazing how many people believe credit cards are free money. Even if they do, their emotions completely override whatever logical thought they may have about money.

Do not tie yourself economically to anyone that has debt, particularly if they have demonstrated no ability to ever climb out of that hole. Not nearly as horrifying as Puff’s story, but I married a woman who had significant credit card debit. I stupidly paid it all off, and convinced myself that she would change, follow my lead and we could live responsibly within our means. I was absolutely wrong. I took the new CC debt with me in the divorce (in lieu of keeping more retirement money, since I knew banks would come after me regardless of whatever the divorce settlement stated.

Later on I dated a woman around the age of 40s for a while. Very hot, but rather stupid. She had gone back to school to get a teaching degree, and then wanted to get her masters. She had huge stupid loans, plus government grants. She’s going to die in debt (or kill a man with debt). She acted like she was such a good loving person since she was going to teach, but she really was just a leech living off the government.

It still amazes me, though I’m not surprised, that women have no sense of the effort it takes to make a $1000. She can run a $1000 I debt, have him pay it off, then claim he doesn’t love her because he got the cheap the roses on V-day.

I knew (know) one that would literally try to force her way through your front door and all the while loudly proclaiming that you were hurting her for effect (and in case someone was watching or listening). Pretty much anything you did to defend yourself verbally, physically, or emotionally was in her mind some kind of abuse. She thought you MUST deal with her OR ELSE YOU WOULD BE PUNISHED. I try to warn others the crazies are out there but the stories are so nutty that I have trouble telling them and I think no one will believe them. Still If I see an opportunity to guide a young guy away from a nut I try if there is a chance.

So yes the right woman can make any situation into an abuse case against you. Once I learned that these women actually exist I have not been the same since. Thought they only existed in a Hollywood horror show.
