Currently in the middle of watching Magnum Force, the 2nd movie in the Dirty Harry series starring Clint Eastwood.

Great movie series, first time watching them for me.

I had to pause the movie after seeing a scene where a suppressor is used on a .357 magnum revolver. I am no firearms expert by far, however the idea of using a suppressor on a revolver seemed far-fetched to say the least.

A quick search brought me to a youtube video explaining that gas/debris/and sound would escape from the gap between the cylinder and the barrel of the revolver; therefore rendering a suppressor virtually worthless.

Scrolling down to read the comments, I found many people referring to a specific russian-made revolver (the Nagant it is called), which can in fact be silenced. In their view it would seem, this nullified the original point that revolvers cannot be suppressed.

My conclusion from this is that, similarly to the NAWALT argument, many believe that the existence of an exception to a statement discredits the rule of thumb/generalization.

To me this seems to be a form of cognitive dissonance; or perhaps instead it is an example of the Dunning-Kruger effect. People think that simply because they can name an exception, that they are smarter than the person making a statement which covers the vast majority.

I had a hinge revolver that would shave bullets, that’s how loose the cylinder and hinge was, I planished the hinge tight but the cylinder was 50/50 hit or miss. I scrapped it, it was a dime a dozen model 1873 something something New Haven Conn. it was a .38…

The best silent bullets are made of wood and feathers and come from compound bow.

lol silencers on revolvers in movies always make me smile.

Getting back to your point, I can’t afford to find the one special snowflake that won’t stab me in the back if I marry her up. I thought I married the one special snowflake who would not betray me. F~~~ her and the judge who f~~~ed me over. I can only lose half my s~~~ twice 😉

I can spend the rest of my life looking for the next only snowflake, or I can get on with my life recovering from the last snowflake.
