one of my new hobbies is playing the keyboard/piano. I definitely feel like i’m getting better and better every month. here’s my most recent piano cover video (tribute to the late Christina Grimmie)

    enjoy!

P.S. playing music is much more fulfilling than chasing women.

Title: HD Liar Liar piano cover overlay with Grimmie vocals + guitar

Hobbies are so f~~~ing useful. Its cool that youve foubd something you like and can be good at, and be passionate about.

I tried getting into playing guitar a few years back, but had a hard time staying committed.

In a couple weeks though is gonna be my first hike, its gonna be solo. Cant wait.

Brother, we need to stick together.

@the_young, are you going hiking or backpacking? Either way, congrats on doing your first solo trip.

The first time I backpacked solo was in the mountains of northern Okinawa. Even as an adult, I have a dangerously active imagination, so every mouse scampering through the leaf litter near my tent was, in my fertile mind, some kind of hideous beast hell-bent on consuming my flesh.

Getting through that first night, oh so many years ago, was critical. Now I can curl up under a rock ledge and sleep with reckless abandon.

Backpacking actually! Gonna walk something like 19 KM with some supplies. Do a bit of hiking after I stash my stuff, go look at a f~~~ing deer, then go back and sleep it off. Wake up hopefully not dying of soar calves, and back home I go!

In the same boat. I’d much rather create things that I like than try to please some hapless c~~~.

This all good stuff… the music, the stomping around in the woods, enjoying your unmolested solitude whether you find in the music room or outside in nature’s wonders.

I unfortunately have no musical talent whatsoever and must rely on the creativeness of others to entertain me. I might be dating myself but I’m a huge Tom Petty fan. A good southern boy like myself and quite a few of his songs speak to the treachery of women and broken promises!

To the young one. Don’t know where you are headed or for how long, but pack as light as you can. The essentials consist of a good sharp sheath knife, compass, trail map, matches or flint & steel, tarp, and a aluminum pot and some para cord. Thus equipped you can boil water for drinking, cook, keep yourself generally oriented in direction and build a lean to for a shelter if it rains. A first aid kit is prudent although I’ve found that I can fix myself in most instances with super glue and electrical tape.

Beyond that the rest are the “nice to haves” such as bed roll, musical instrument, deck of cards, paperback book, flashlight, Ramen noodles with some frozen ground turkey to cook, Dinty Moore beef stew, and some Maker’s Mark whiskey to wash it down with.

For many years I always carried a handgun of one sort or another whenever I ventured into woods. Usually an old 1916 WWI German Luger that my grandfather gave me when I was 15. However, I honestly must confess I never had occasion to produce it for any reason. So it might be considered dead weight, but it did instill a certain level of confidence at night on those first few solo outings.

There is nothing to be afraid of out there. The critters that come around to check out your camp fire at night are just curious to see what your up to. Enjoy yourself and tell us about your adventure afterwards 🙂

Cheers bro! I still gotta go buy most of the essentials, so now that I’ve got a checklist I have a better idea of what I need!!

I’ve heard that if you sit absolutely still for thirty minutes, the wildlife will emerge.

"It seems like there's times a body gets struck down so low, there ain't a power on earth that can ever bring him up again. Seems like something inside dies so he don't even want to get up again. But he does."

I used to play drums with my two friends punk band for five years . I also collect model cars . I have thousands of them down in the basement .
