Marriage is one way to increase social and financial status. What I see is that it is socially acceptable for women to do it, but not men, so hypergamy happens much more than the other way.

I knew one woman from the Philippines for a number of years, and it was all hypergamy for her (marrying up). It was quite clear, as was her interest in more money, etc…

I used to think that foreign women were better than Western women too at one time, but I’ve heard too many stories that suggest otherwise, in fact as a young Airman (in the Air Force) back in the early 80’s I worked with a nurse who told me that her son, who was also in the military at one time, had gone to the Philippines, met a woman there, married her, brought her back to the states – where she promptly divorced him after a few years. No doubt she didn’t think very highly of Filipino women.

The problem is that while most guys might see a girl and think ‘future wife’, she most likely is looking at HIM and thinking ‘Green Card’. Yeah some guys get lucky and hit the jackpot, but truthfully, getting married is like taking a stroll in a minefield: You just don’t know if your next step is your last. Peace out!
