Hey there everyone, I probably mentioned the story of me doing a presentation on women’s day at my university class. Before the video I want to inform you with couple of things. I study English Language and Literature and I “had” to make a presentation because we were going to be graded with our performance. I grew up watching pro-wrestling and I love to entertain people and sometimes make them “mad” just for the sake of it. Why men’s rights you might ask, my class is full of girls, so I said what the hell let’s do this. My concern wasn’t to educate them, I just wanted high grades. We had 10 minutes so understand the “rush” I had to keep it short and this is a long subject as most of you know. Anyways here is the video, enjoy.

I finally decided to share it with you guys and get your opinion about my speech and everything, don’t focus solely on the subject please, English is my second language. I just want to get your opinion about how I delievered the presentation, do you see potential etc.

Final note: Feminists were really angry at the end but unfortunately they all LOVED TO HATE me. To be honest some found me right but I don’t think they’re really genuine.

btw please let’s keep the video between us, I don’t want to blow up on reddit or anything, haha.

Greetings. Good job my friend. I’m guessing that your first language is Arabic or Farsi, how close or far off am I?

Overall you did better than I would have done minus a few things. You did make a couple of grammatical mistakes, saying “woman” when “women” was the correct word choice. Also you had unnecessarily used the word “the” a couple of times too. But these are relatively minor considering English is a second language for you. Something to work on though.

Public speaking, and speaking in general from my experience, requires projecting your voice. You did that very well. On the other hand knowing when to change emphasis of tone is vitally important. Also knowing when to pause for emphasis is needed to. Like your example with the lipstick. Taking a few seconds, maybe three to five, to really let that sink in would have created the atmosphere need to drive home your point.

Anyway my friend, take this for what it’s worth. Just my opinion.

    That’s funny!

You brought up allot of discrimination and inequality against men and made a good argument!

However, I can’t support your positive view on marriage, I’ve seen too many fall apart and grind the man and the children to pieces while the woman carelessly reaches for a fresh new man on the c~~~ carousel.

I’m a LTMFB type after all the spiritual and physical carnage I’ve seen, I’m on vacation, forever!

It’s Turkish so you’re pretty close.

You did make a couple of grammatical mistakes, saying “woman” when “women” was the correct word choice. Also you had unnecessarily used the word “the” a couple of times too. But these are relatively minor considering English is a second language for you. Something to work on though.

In my mind I was saying women but you’re right I have to work on that given that I still live in Turkey I don’t talk English everyday in my life so there is still a long way to go. And I’ve never realized I used “the” too much until you pointed out, thanks, I’m not sure if I was caught up in the moment or not but I will keep it in mind for the future.

Also knowing when to pause for emphasis is needed to. Like your example with the lipstick. Taking a few seconds, maybe three to five, to really let that sink in would have created the atmosphere need to drive home your point.

You are totally right, since you mentioned, I was going to do that but the crowd was completely dead and ignorant I am sure they didn’t even understand most of my speech, I wasn’t expecting that and at that very moment I felt pity towards my professor in that brief moment too many things went through my head, after that I didn’t know what to do but somehow I pulled it off. Again, it was 10 minutes, even the rehearsals took me around 25 minutes I decided I will live in the moment and I’ve done it without 10 minutes prepared rehearsel.

Thanks again for your comment, I will especially work on those pronunciation and grammar mistakes.

first of all thank you, second of all, I totally understand and agree with you, I forgot to mention that I had to play it “safe” I didn’t want to go full beast mode and make a bad impact as a person in a school environment. I live in a society where even sex before marriage is looked bad upon, most people have to marry each other, it’s been like that for centuries and I can’t just go up there demolishing it right off the bat, it’s a matter of time thing. Good catch though I have forgotten to mention that.

Thank you and yes I love them all but unfortunately I can’t say I grew up with them but I still watch the old shows they’re all very inspiring!

You’re welcome. Now understand that I’m a native English speaker, American English to be exact. So pronunciations will be a bit different for me than for someone learning British English (as well as spellings, punctuation and some definitions.) Poor grammar and word choice jump out like a sore thumb.

    “….I don’t talk English everyday…” You don’t “talk” a language, you “speak” a language. For example I don’t speak Spanish. I wouldn’t say that I don’t talk Spanish.

I think that I might know what’s going on with the word “the” in the presentation that you made. I suspect that your native language, Turkish, uses the equivalent or translation to the word “the” in English so your mind immediately thinks to use it, even though you may know that the word doesn’t belong there. Does that sound close to what’s going on?

I’m afraid to say that on a North American campus it’s not so much bravery as a death wish.

Oh, and you have big b~~~~, OP. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences on the forums!

Brother, you were articulate, had clear delivery, and good speech rhythm.

You have good command of the language, and like everything practice makes perfect.

I am willing to admit that your confidence and delivery would be much more as you put yourself on the spot presenting more audience friendly topics.

At last how you carried yourself is commendable given a controversial topic in a room-full of potentially triggerable feminists.

Very well done. You have natural gift for public speaking. Build on that.

Many thanks for sharing the video 🙂

thank you very very much you made my day, the honor is actually mine, I love this place! god bless us all.

I don’t think the problem is about my native language, I think I was taught wrong or it became a habit since nobody corrected me but realization is the first step to solve a problem. I will work on this and try to use “the” better. Thanks.

Thanks but I should mention that I live in Turkey, yes it still is hard to voice your opinions when there are women around, it’s a fact.

Thank you, I bit the bullet on purpose, as a person who loves pro-wrestling, I actually wanted to feel the heat, the hatred from the audience, it is my way of finding myself, I usually make people laugh, I make jokes I’m a funny person overall but those people really lack the English skills and they don’t understand my jokes during the class so I said what the hell I will do what pleases me not them. Because I really do hate my classmates. They’re lost causes.
Thanks again for the advice, I will work hard to get better with many practices.

I think you have done pretty well, not to far off perfection even.

    Thank you very much!
