What would it really be like to be totally isolated? How will future space travelers manage the fact that they may be the only human on a craft traveling for years .. possibly decades to some distant targets .. alone, to conserve resources .. four years and 886 million miles .. one way.
I can see this scenario working with the proper balance of virtual crew mates, virtual vignettes that will allow for both companionship, intimacy, arts and entertainment .. and technical assistance along the journey.I believe it can be done, to a degree that the one human will rarely if ever feel any pangs of loneliness or regret for accepting the fate of traveling alone.
Could I endure a decade long journey with no one but virtual mates?, Bots of various designs .. and a vast digital library of books, music, arts and entertainment .. recipes and everything technologically possible to keep a “touch of home” aboard the ship.I do .. I really do think that I could stay sane, perform my duties and functions and even enjoy the months as they pass .. if the virtual technology was comprehensive enough to give me the feeling of having someone there .. that someone could be nothing more than a semi-transparent holographic image .. an image with a virtual IQ of 200 .. enough to give me audible and visual feedback to my conversation .. my needs and my requests.
This combined with actual Bots, again .. the key being interaction to the scale of discussing a movie .. chatting about history .. planning recipes .. an evening of musical holographic entertainment .. yes, enjoying a companion intelligent enough for “sparring” verbally over views and attitudes ..
.. and then, this may seem trivial .. but the music would be key .. musical interactive visual experiences .. sitting in a small computer generated holographic Bar scene, at a small round table enjoying a cool drink and blending with computer generated characters as all listen intently to a completely virtual performance .. a mere projection, not really there .. yet enough .. more than enough, to entertain… the performers, whisping electronic images, looking down at my table, smiling and blending with the band in the background. The characters virtual, yet intelligent enough to interact, to walk over after the performance, and spend time visiting each table .. the music real .. the characters digital but interactive to the point of forgetting the fact .. this would sustain me.
A computer generated sidewalk cafe in Paris, 1949 .. a smartly dressed virtual Parisian asks if the chair is taken .. I buy her a virtual drink, we chat for awhile .. and enjoy a real drink of my own. The only items that have tactile mass in the entire scenario .. myself, the table and my glass, my chair .. yet in both scenes, recharging me emotionally and psychologically to sleep well and begin the next day of tasks and duties aboard my ship.
… yes, with the right companions, intelligent surroundings, layers and layers of projections .. and virtual embellishments .. I could travel alone.
Music in the corridors .. always music, music for tasks .. relaxing .. entertaining …a bot named Harmony … thinking about this .. daring to dream what might be, what could be on that decade long voyage, alone .. isolated ..yet, surrounded by images, music, company .. thinking about this makes it a good day, today is a good day.
How long is the trip? People get weird after 90 days in solitary confinement. This sounds much more comfortable, but at some point the effects would be similar.
I think the real question would be, Would I want to dock the ship? Or How would i íntergrate back into society? It might be the best life a man could imagine, or it could be maddening.
Some movies make long distance space travel seem like flying internationally, other movies like Event Horizon give it a horrifying unknown aspect.
Galatians 5:1 (KJV) Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
Sounds great. I used to have this fantasy of living on one of Saturn’s moons. I would love to see Saturn rising above the horizon. That would be a beautiful sight. I would have plenty of time to read books, with none of the dumb distractions of Earth. I have a collection of books I haven’t read yet. So if I was on a space journey, I’d have no problem with putting all that time to good use. If I was isolated, I would study subjects that I’m not good at: mathematics, physics, economics. I would be proud of myself if I could finally understand some of the complex equations I had a hard time with in college. If there was an AI program that could teach mathematics, that would be cool—like an AI tutor.
"I saw that there comes a point, in the defeat of any man of virtue, when his own consent is needed for evil to win-and that no manner of injury done to him by others can succeed if he chooses to withhold his consent. I saw that I could put an end to your outrages by pronouncing a single word in my mind. I pronounced it. The word was ‘No.’" (Atlas Shrugged)
First off. Why would you enjoy the thought of buying a drink for even a holographic woman?
Why not imagine her buying you the drink because you are, after all, the prize.Secondly.
No offense to anyone, but I think you guys are glamorizing and over-simplifying how long, dangerous and arduous a journey like this would take.Imagine “Oregon Trail” and multiply that by infinity ( and beyond).
I’m all for inter-planetary space travel, if it’s even possible, but it’s going to be extremely dangerous and difficult.

I’m all for inter-planetary space travel, if it’s even possible, but it’s going to be extremely dangerous and difficult.Too much stuff will break over time you will be unable to fix. There are no spare parts for some things, some repairs would not be possible to do. Plastics break down, hoses break, circuits fry you’re not going to have lots of extra stuff to ‘reroute things’. The whole saving things just in time like the movies is not real life.
Women want everything, but want responsibility and accountability for nothing.
F~~~ that! I ain’t jumping in a tin can through space for years and seeing the s~~~ degrade around me little by little until I implode!!
Rather, put all the assholes, cucks, menginas and feminists in a can and boot that s~~~ to Pluto! Why should we be the ones to leave this oasis in space?? F~~~ that! Planet Earth is OURS and they will NOT take it from the true Master of this planet, He WILL boot them the f~~~ out!Don't let them Blame, Shame or Tame you!
Give 'em NOTHING, not even an answer!
#GenderSegragationNow!WE are not alone out there. Ask Russia. Here is why
Say what you would like. Space probes don’t just go offline like that for no reason. Here is the other strange thing. It seems like there is some kind of A.I. out there. I’m not kidding. And it seems that it is on Protection mode. See, I still can’t wrap around my head why the Russian probe could not be located. AFter it took photos, the thing seems to get blasted out of orbit. And I don’t think it was some super magnet field.
There is indeed some kind of intelligent or semi intelligent systems out there in operation. So.. Yea. THAT is a real danger it seems.
Now here is the other thing to think about. We don’t make SPACE craft. Its not really a CRAFT as much as it is a some kind of Capsule. In order to really do space travel, we would really need to build some facilities on the moon. There are PLENTY of mining that can be done there. THere is also no problem with setting up Nuclear power sources up there. Even RTG’s would work. Combine that with Thermal and Solar power with the Moon surface being used as a heat sink, and you are all good to go.
Robots remember do not need air. And It’s completely possible to make robots that can replicate themselves over time. Even Build factories. Mine ore etc. In fact, High heat Thermal batteries like the ones that FORD developed would be PERFECT for space. THe electronics don’t need to be on the robots themselves really. Just Simple servos. That would take care of the some of the Radiation.
Vacuum tubes would be impervious to Radiation. And we can make them VERY SMALL TODAY. So that would take care of that. All main communications can be done with RF Light and even sound in the form of vibrations that would travel through the the moon surface at ultra low bitrates.
What about Air? Well, ilmenite contains oxygen. And it also has iron. and Filled with Titanium! The moon is RICH in just about anything needed to be used for power generation. There Is even water to be had as well.
So if we DID start mining the moon, then let’s face it. At that point? There is NO LIMIT to what can be done. The robots in little less then 5 years can start building entire underground cities where they have mined all the way DEEP inside the moon. Large and HEAVY gauge steel doped with all sorts of things can be used to make the underground metal city air tight.
We are talking about places LARGER then FOOT BALL FIELDS and the entire stadiums. Along with “Parking”. And since space is a vacuum? Metal production and all sorts of things are made easy to do in the wide open. Less impurities etc.
OUr first real spacecraft would really look something more like this:
Sooner or later in less then 5 years time, you will see this on the moon if we start seeing that things like GOLD can be had there.
Thing is, Everything that needs to be built in space can be done cheaply. And we have ROBOT galore! The first company that really starts mining things on the Moon is going to be rich as f~~~! Not only that, but think about it. There is NO LIMIT to what you can do there. And the first people to start taking advantage of these moons and robots is going to be able to be the richest man in the world. Or nation for that matter.
In fact, once you build the first mining facilities, you can start an entire “City” up on the moon just simply Lanches Large Metal ships to earth. Land them in the oceans and then recover them. THe contatiers would be all Metal. So that would be worth it alone. Imagine large ships shaped like large versions of the Apollo space capsules landing in the oceans. After they land, they are buoyant enough to be towed into shore, and then disassembled and mined/ Recycled. Metal would be so cheap at that point (like Titanium) You could make entire plumbing systems out of it. Hell, the amount of copper alone would allow so much more cool things to happen here. In fact, each year production of the robots and the mining operation would quadruple each year. Before long, You would have Legitimate resources in space dor water, food production and so much more. Again, Robots DO NOT GIVE A S~~~ ABOUT WORKING. Once the boom happens? You can KISS all this WE WAZ KINGS bulls~~~ out the window.
As long as a company starts that only cares about profit. You can kiss all this earth s~~~ goodbye.
You have NO idea what is possible.
You are all alone. If you have been falsely accused of RAPE, DV, PLEASE let all men know about the people who did this. http://register-her.net/web/guest/home
Anonymous38There is a reason why solitary confinement is one of the worst punishments. Technology might make it bearable for a while, but I suspect most people would go mad if it was long-term.
Have you seen the movie “Passengers”? I’ve recently watched it and it’s about a guy, along with thousands of others, who are in “sleep chambers” on a space ship traveling to a new world. A malfunction causes him to wake up 90 years too early. I’d love to give more details, but don’t want to spoil it. You should watch this movie as it’s very similar to what you’ve described and maybe virtual interaction may not be enough. It wasn’t for the character in the movie.

“Hell is other people” Oscar Wilde.
I think I could handle a few years of isolation given that I had a plethora of entertainment and goals I could work on during the travel. It would be very tough and probably would have some issues when integrating back into society, but the idea that I could come out a better man would be a big help.
I don’t know if it’s the isolation that it would be worst part, or the fact that the future doesn’t have any unknown elements to it to look forward to. I think part of what motivates people to look forward to tomorrow is that we don’t know what tomorrow will bring. In isolation, you know exactly what tomorrow will bring…same thing as today. So it’s seems possible that if there is some sort of stimulation through an AI or pre-programming that would allow some element of the unknown, than it could help tremendously. I think choice is also a big factor. You need to have enough flexibility in the setup so that I can chose what I want to do today.
Ok. Then do it.
Humans are social animals whether we like it or not.
I’m not about “total” isolation, but I would like to have the ability to be more “selective” about who, when, and where I invested/wasted my time with.
MANY people are just vampires and are all about sucking the life out of you while at the same time spreading drama and other useless s~~~ wherever they go.

I can spend at least a week alone with no problem and I actually hate it when I have to eventually go somewhere and be around people. I just really can’t stand other people. Even one of my closest friends, one of the few people I can stand to be around all day…..I get so damn sick of him.
The older I get, the more I hate being around people. I don’t know how long, but I bet I could be just fine isolated from other people for a very long time. People are no damn good.
The evil in women’s hearts leaves them no moral bounds as to inhibit them from descending to the lowest levels of darkness to acquire their self entitled desires.
I could stay totally alone for a few years. No worries of going insane, I’m already there but why in the hell would I want to do that? To go to some f~~~ing god-forsaken place and find out there are alien monsters ready to skin me alive, roast my flesh and make toothpicks out of my bones? To hell with that!
To spread human civilization out to the stars? As if ruining this planet isn’t enough they have to go ruin another perfectly good planet ?!?I’d love to see a whole space expedition to another earth-like planet with hundreds and hundreds of colonists and they’d land on a planet full of Predator-like creatures!
Don't let them Blame, Shame or Tame you!

Marry again, Hell NO ! ( Even JESUS was hung on a cross just once)
“Hell is other people” Oscar Wilde.
I thought that was Sartre not Oscar Wilde.
All my life I've had doubts about who I am, where I belonged. Now I'm like the arrow that springs from the bow. No hesitation, no doubts. The path is clear. And what are you? Alive. Everything else is negotiable. Women have rights; men have responsibilities; MGTOW have freedom. Marriage is for chumps. If someone stands in the way of true justice, you simply walk up behind them and stab them in the heart-R'as al Ghul.

I thought that was Sartre not Oscar Wilde.
It was Sartre and it was the title of one of his plays.
If it really happened, it would be pretty much like the International Space Station. Even if you were the only crew member, you’d have to do a bunch of daily tasks, experiments and report all that back to Earth. You would really not feel alone. Probably have to smile for the cameras all the time. One would also have to accept the fact that one would most certainly die there, as so many things can go wrong and probably will.
Please Mickey, go easy on the science fiction. lol
Spacecrafts don’t need to be aerodynamic. All function, no form.
Space travel can be fun:
All my life I've had doubts about who I am, where I belonged. Now I'm like the arrow that springs from the bow. No hesitation, no doubts. The path is clear. And what are you? Alive. Spacecrafts don’t need to be aerodynamic.
But they do need to be able to absorb an impact. And they do need to have gravity. A Borg Cube would look like the best design, but then if something goes wrong, it would be best to make the ship like you would compartments of a submarine. In fact, just copying a submarine hull would be fine. You would just be deleting all the other holes you don’t need. And Ballast tanks etc.
In fact, the sonar dome serves as a Plastic safety bumper to absorb some impact when it does happen. (and has)
The thing in space is, that hull is going to have to accept Impacts of a Jumbo jet at full speed and keep on going like nothing happened. The area of that force can be as small as a grain of sand. Or a small meteorite. You also can’t make the entire thing out of metal since it would be conductive. The hull or the outsides would have a ruff surface similar to an asteroid. Basically, ceramic heat shielding. And would do double duty as impact absorption.
Since we don’t have artificial gravity generators that work yet. The inside of that ship would not be horizontal. But vertical to the propulsion systems. (for Gravity)
The idea is not so much aerodynamics as it is to deflect and provide absorption area for impacts. As well as providing a charge surface that would work with ion propulsion systems.
And the possibility of running into things in space is pretty high. having the vessel designed like that would allow it to accept shock and dissipate energy from any kind of shock. Kind of like how a spring would react when a force hits it. And also a shock absorber for dampening.
The other is solar flares. That is a real possibility. Having a ship that is “aerodynamic” allows you to over time develop fields that would you to punch a hole through that kind of stuff and so it would act as a force field/ propulsion system of its own in time.
The ship needs to have a capacity of being in space for at least 500 years. Tons of damage is going to happen during that time. And its quite possible that a landing on a planet may need to be done. it may not be air, it may be methane, or some other gas. As an engineer, you have to plan for everything.
And we are talking about space here. Economics goes out the window. And the highest cost is life. With that being said. The better it looks, the more pride the people will have on that ship.
In fact, Moon landings are completely feasible. So you will need some aerodynamic principles at bay. And being the atmosphere can be thick or thin, you will need some kind of flat surface to at least act as a sail or brake to slow down or control the aircraft.
It also allows a high degree of survivability if a crash does occur into a planet’s surface.
And right now, we can fly just on non moving engines. Chances are, more of this will be used in space travel as well.
