Mars is going to suck for probably the first generation or two of permanent inhabitants, but once infrastructure is built, there will be a lot of money to be made there.

I think living and working in space will be a lot like the current sci-fi movies depict it to be.
A lot of slave-like, dangerous mining and transport work, and a lot of science and tech work.
The Martians, and anyone travelling to and from there, will look a lot different from us Earthlings.
