Murdoch vs the Duopoly – Pay Us or We Smear You

Rupert Murdoch is 86, but not playing bingo. He’s taking on Facebook and Google for using their large market share to deny content creator paywalls and limit content creator say over what ads are shown with their content. He’s using Newscorp as a weapon to vilify their hosting of fake news or terror propaganda, with intent to extort concessions on content creator control, and force legislative reform.
This angle is another reason (in addition to the fact that FB and Google covertly discriminate against libertarian or conservative content creators) why de facto monopolies of critical economic infrastructure need to regulated like public utilities.
Facebook and Google have evolved into communication STANDARDS. Standards here are defined as specific network communication protocols that are WIDELY relied on by users to maintain the standard as a matter of minimally safe and reliable public access.
Youtube’s video hosting format and its massively connected network and search engine are now public standards, similar to the electric power grid’s voltage standards and its massive distribution area, or the 87.5MHz-108MHz FM radio band range and it’s massive broadcast area. We rely on Facebook and Google’s protocols to be maintained to efficiently search for and aggregate information, and their massiveness to ensure we dont have unexpected dead ends and extortion trolls on our informational journeys.
I’m a libertarian, BUT in narrow cases there is the obligation of government to ensure reasonably equal, safe, and reliable access to public utilities as they evolve.
Not to say Murdoch’s tactics are honorable, but neither are the Duopoly’s feudal and partisan political content controls.

    I concur.

I’d pretty much come to the same conclusion regarding Facebook and Google/YouTube.

I wasn’t aware of Murdoch taking them on, though.

All my life I've had doubts about who I am, where I belonged. Now I'm like the arrow that springs from the bow. No hesitation, no doubts. The path is clear. And what are you? Alive. Everything else is negotiable. Women have rights; men have responsibilities; MGTOW have freedom. Marriage is for chumps. If someone stands in the way of true justice, you simply walk up behind them and stab them in the heart-R'as al Ghul.
