Muirfield Golf club votes to remain men-only

Muirfield Golf club has voted to remain a men-only golf club. The privately-owned club – established in 1744 – has hosted 16 Open Championships.

As a result of this vote, the organisers of the British Open have now informed Muirfield it will be excluded from hosting future championships.

I submit, gentlemen, that the organisers of the Open can go f~~~ themselves. Muirfield has been around for 272 years, and will be around a long time after the Open organisers have f~~~ed off and taken their ideological bulls~~~ with them.

It’s a defeat, not a victory

Of the 616 members who cast a ballot, 397, or 64%, voted in favour of admitting women, while 219, or 36%, voted against. A further 14 votes in favour of change were needed to reach the two-thirds majority.

Women are excluded just only because it requires two thirds, but the vast majority is in favor of admitting women.
Plus more they are now excluded from hosting the future championships.
In a matter of two or three years they’ll admit women.

I’m not a golf fan but if I were I would now be walking away without hesitation. The R&A deserve nothing less for their blatant attempt at blackmailing private member’s clubs in pursuit of imposition of their own ideology and any club kowtowing to this s~~~ deserves to lose it’s loyal members and see them take their money elsewhere.

But nothing Nicola, it is either for Muirfield as a private club to decide on its membership or it is not, “it is, but” means it is not, so which is it?

I can see one benefit here, after all if we’re shooting for equality here it must be absolute. That means if women are allowed to join then all none members must be excluded, no more freebies for the WAGs, you want it you pay for it.
