Every time I go to the library, a gaggle of females is talking or gossiping or socializing.

I’ve tried going to different locations (they are everywhere).
I’ve tried asking them to shut it (to which they say sorry but then go on and loudly whisper)

It’s so hard to focus on what you’re reading when those girls are gossiping about “that bitch from down the street.”

I have come to the conclusion that I need defenses. Specifically, I need 100% sound-proof ear-plugs. I used to have some earplugs before but they did nothing for me….still let the noise through.. Cheap CVS quality I guess….

    Anyways, any recommendations?

Yeah, earplugs, specifically? Easiest ones to take in and out are the underwater variety,

although they block less noise than the ones Ilearn has linked.

In my opinion, though, you need to go the next step, if possible, and play music on your phone, mp3player, etc.

You have personal experience with skull candy?

    Cheap and very effective.

    What brand are those?

I went through several different earbuds till I settled on Skullcandy. They are slightly bass-heavy but pretty effective earbuds for $10 . They come with two different sizes of rubberized covers, and the stereo jack is fairly solid. They are what I am using now.

I think they were some generic brand. Nothing fancy. It did however mention something to effect of construction/heavy machinery grade level use. Should be enough to keep out gossip voice.

When I went to my local community college, I used to take a portable CD player with me. I had earphones and I would tune out all that nonsense. People can talk ANYWHERE on campus. Why do they choose the library? Who knows. I wish libraries had a quiet zone for serious students. This zone would be walled off from the rest of the idiots.

Yes like the fancy ones with mahogany wood paneling, marble fireplace and stained glass (with nekked chicks).

As a musician, I can totally back this recommendation. I first wore them for a performance with my band in a crowded gym. They muffled the sound of the drums right behind me and dulled the edge of the shrieking bitches’ screeching in front of the stage. When they are this color, most people don’t even know you are wearing them too, I wore them to class the next day so I wouldn’t have to listen to the teacher try to lecture. No one noticed.

Do you know what brand they are/what are they called? I’ll look into them.

I bought a large box of these at my local hardware store in its worker safety dept.

I got them at Walgreens. They are cheap and they last a long time if you don’t mind them getting a little dirty.

Get the silicone version of Mack’s. I use those when I sleep.

I learned to tune out women by necessity. I used to work in an open-office environment with 8 chatty women all day. I wasn’t allowed to use earplugs because I had to keep an ear out for my phone an other things. One day I went to work and I was granted the gift of tuning them out like a superhero given powers. Just have to focus on what you are doing and all the distractions and the chitty chatting goes awaaaayyy..

    Good luck!

Have you tried handing out brass earplugs in the library?
