In my younger and skinner days I use to train martial arts. About 10 years ago I got bored with it. Instead of being fun it became a chore. Much like cleaning the bathroom.

Welp, I got the itch again and tomorrow I go back to training. Now 10 years older and several pounds heavier.

One reason for starting again (not the only reason) was the inspiration I got from the dude-bros here.

A middle aged fat man can only read about others improving themselves physically and not be inspired.

    Thx to all y’all

Since you already have the martial arts background, maybe something fun but more practical would be learning and training on 8-9 streetfighting moves. I used to take Judo and we all know about how many thousands of times to practice a move to make it reflexive. If you practice just 8-9 streetfighting moves you can use them in any combo you need.

    Head butt
    Ear slap
    Eye gouge
    Dislocate elbow
    Throat punch
    Groin kick
    Knee kick
    Shin kick
    Leg sweep
    Arch Stomp/Break
    Knee to Gut

Women want everything, but want responsibility and accountability for nothing.

Some of those items on your list we do practice.
If actual fighting was my goal I would look into MMA.

I rely on stealth and awareness to keep my ass out of a sling.

I’m a firm believer in not putting myself into a position where I have to fight.

    Being a fan of the 2A doesn’t hurt. πŸ˜€

I’m glad you’re getting back into working out. I still consider myself young but I feel myself getting older. I just do what I can to stay in working order. Healthy body, healthy mind, healthy spirit. MMA is the best way to do it, just protect the brain!

It’s not about being the biggest or toughest or strongest for me; especially cause you bring up 2A. “God made all men, Colt made them equal.” Rambo said the mind is the most dangerous weapon of all. I hope you never have to use it, for their sake. πŸ™‚

I was once a great king, I believe you were too. I hope you believe in me, I hope you believe in you.

I think that’s a great idea. Go back to what made you happy before woman.

Looking forward to hearing about your results. Credit to you for taking the initiative. Increased physical activity will also help improve your mood and overall well-being.

    Thx Hitman.
I have already started #1 eating less/better, laying off the booze etc.

I have lost some weight. Had to buy new jeans earlier this year.

Now it is time to earn a few bruises and sore muscles.

good move! as a martial arts instructor i’m sure you also have warmup and stretching to prepare you and help keep you fit..
i would guess that you are not as out of shape as you may think…but age can make us unfit if we allow it.
i have worked in labor intensive fields all my life and so far am blessed with fitness and wellness, but i still need exercise.
as i’m close to retirement (63) and unemployed
i turned down some jobs in trucking for lack of exercise(dryvan and refrigerated) and now only accept flatbed
trucking for the exercise it gives…keep up the good work!
