    Large part of MGTOW philosophy

    Urban Dictionary Definition lol

Someone who does not give a s~~~ about the stupid things in this world that most people care so much about. Stoics do have emotions, but only for the things in this world that really matter. They are the most real people alive.
Group of kids are sitting on a porch. Stoic walks by.

    Kid – “Hey man, yur a f~~~in f~~~~~ an you suck c~~~!”

    Stoic – “Good for you.”

    Keeps going.

    i never considered myself stoic.
but have grown in to the part.
    handling adversity.
    it does make you stronger.
it hurts and then you get smarter, stronger,
more able to deal with whatever comes your way next.
    thanks for the article!

I would suggest you look into the Finnish concept of “Sisu”

Me neither, honestly i didnt even understand the concept until recently. I never even realized it is the western equivalent of Confucianism (something i understand more due to upbringing). Glad you enjoyed it and found some strength within yourself!

I remember this now. I first heard of it, humourously from an episode of Top Gear, with James May interviewing Mika Hakkinen as his explanation for his driving prowess!

First result from the Google search

    “Sisu of Finns”
It is a Finnish term that can be roughly translated into English as strength of will, determination, perseverance, and acting rationally in the face of adversity. Sisu is not momentary courage, but the ability to sustain that courage. It is a word that cannot be fully translated.

I don’t feel stoic at all. In fact I’m very engaging, social and enthusiastic. I can say NO with a smile. I can turn down a s~~~ test without any anger. If you let someone get to close it’s harder to reject them. You have to make it clear that you’re not interested at the soonest possible time so they don’t take it personal. Scorned woman are bitch to deal with. You have to say no before they would feel rejected. I keep a picture of a girl on my desk. I have no idea who it is and eveyone assumes it’s my girlfriend. If they ask I say she is out of country.

I get what you’re saying. Cool word.

Stoicism isn’t about being emotionless. Our current use of the word “stoic” to imply emotionless behavior actually does Stoicism a great disservice.

That’s why I like to use capitalize the word to emphasize the idea that Stoicism is a philosophy and that Stoics are follows of that philosophy.

I can say NO with a smile. I can turn down a s~~~ test without any anger.

Believe it or not, but that’s the behavior of a Stoic.

There’s a thread of mine in the Philosophy forum with various links you may find interesting.

I have no doubt you are right. I have not studied Stoicism.
    I’m a Stoic, and I don’t know it.

For those of you who haven’t clicked the OP’s link yet, let me post the article’s title:

What is indifference if not going your own way?

What is indifference if not the Empty Chair?

It was this site and Old Bill’s post on Stoicism that placed me onto the Stoic path. I have to say it has changed my life. The anger is gone and I find myself viewing the world in an entirely different way now. I’ve read A Guide to the Good Life: The Ancient Art of Stoic Joy, by William B. Irvine which is a great introduction to the philosophy. I listen to Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations podcast which I highly recommend also. MGTOW and Stoicism go hand in hand.

Sisu made some kickass downeast boats a few decades ago.

This definition was included “The term “sisu” refers to a common Finnish concept of “stoic toughness” or perseverance. The literal translation is “having guts” – basically, the spirit of will that survives and enjoys the harsh winters of Scandinavia. ‘The Power of a Finn is the Sisu Within'”

Is MGTOW the Sisu to “survive and enjoy” the world of today? I think so. I know it is for me.

Our Finnish Heritage – Finlandia : Finlandia

In 1938 Finland was invaded by the USSR, in the so called Winter War. The proportionality of forces was overwhelming, yet the Finnish army stood the full might of the Red Army until an armistice in 1941 where it lost 11% of its territory.
The losses where 321,000-363,000 Soviet troops against 70,000 Finnish. A Red Army General said: “We have won just about enough ground to bury our dead.”

In 1941 the Finnish allied with the Axis and invaded the USSR to recover its territory. In the end they returned to the original lines of 1941, and refused to bulge. Finland lost 275,000 troops and the Soviet Union 835,000. The war ended up in another armistice that demanded Finland to declare war on Germany.

Finland and Germany where at war, a short but destructive war during 1944-1945. Finland lost some 1,000 troops and Germany about 2,000.

Indeed strength of will, determination, perseverance, and acting rationally in the face of adversity.

I have returned from research on OldBill’s posts and links on Stoicism. Found here.

So, you want to know more about Stoicism…

You were right OldBill I am Stoic, and a practicing one at that without even knowing it.

I do recommend this to all MGTOW.
If you have religion it will not conflict with you at all.
It can help you reign in redpill rage.

Tipping my hat to you OldBill. I will be buying some of the suggested books as I did find great value in the path you have pointed out to me.

I first heard of Marcus Aurelius Meditations about 6 months ago. It seemed interesting, so I saved the link, to return back when I had the time and frame of mind to absorb and understand what was being transmitted.

A while back, I noticed Old Bill made a post about Stoicism. That was a 2nd reminder, for myself, to check it out.

    This is now the 3rd.

Will definitely allocate the time to really delve into this.

Thank you gentlemen. Seems to go hand in hand with MGTOW philosophy, as Knight pointed out.

The Winter War and the “Continuation War” are topics I have been doing a lot of research on recently. It is a fascinating topic.

From Hitler’s visit to Finland to meet with Mannerheim on his birthday.
To the amazing stories of “Belaya Smert” Simo Häyhä (http://www.badassoftheweek.com/hayha.html)
    Or Lauri Allan Torni (http://www.badassoftheweek.com/index.cgi?id=32651874379)

I will just leave these here……

Stoisim is a great fit for mgtow. It’s abouts focusing on what you can control and not worrying about what you can’t. It’s about practicing negative visualization and even practiced poverty to prepare yourself to lose everything and not be overwhelmed with negitive emotion. It’s about presurving your sovereignty and preparing yourself to weather the storms life willing throw at you. Findings tranquility and happens is the goal.
