I was thinking of taking the day off and travelling to the Tennessee/Kentucky/Ohio vicinity to see the eclispe on August 21. I was wondering if anyone else had any interest in maybe making it a MGTOW get together?

I live in Michigan, so the closest point for me on the path of totality is southern Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee. The eclipse would happen around 2:30 Eastern, 1:30 Central depending on where the get together would be. So an eclipse then a late lunch sounds like a workable plan.

If anyone who is from the area has any suggestions for a good park or something where there would be good viewing that would also be appreciated.

Details about the eclipse can be found at eclipse2017.org

I’d like to do that. I’m in Knoxville, TN which is Eastern Tennessee. Sparky lives in Knoxville too and he is an knowledgeable astronomer. He would likely know the best place. I’ll contact him to read this thread.

The path of totality crosses I75 near there between Sweet~~~er and Athens. Thought it also looks to go right through the Nantahala National Forest southeast of there.

You can Zoom chat any weekend something like this happens very rarely… Unless they start launching feminist fatties in orbit. Some of those hambeasts could block out a good deal of sunlight.

I am heading to Nebraska for the eclipse with a fellow astronomer for the eclipse. The air is drier with far less chance of clouds. There is a sports bar North of Beatrice directly at the center line of the eclipse. Unless the humidity drops below 30% and it is clear in East Tennessee, I’m going to Nebraska. My astronomy club will be at Fort Louden State Park if it is clear.

By all means, check the weather before you travel. Most motels and hotels are already booked up and there have been reports of price gouging. My club has people as far away as Canada wanting to come. My 6″ Reflector has a solar filter.

The TN, NC and SC eclipse path will be packed due to the non stop tourism marketing that has occurred over the past six months.

I agree with Sparky, try your luck in the Midwest area

Carhenge? That would make some great pics with the eclipse. Chimney rock would also do well, if it isn’t too far south.

People need to understand that when the air is humid, a Solar Eclipse often creates clouds as the temperature drops when the sun is blocked. As it is, southern Apalatia is under clouds 65% of the time during August. So be ready to travel as you don’t want to miss this event.

When you think of mountains, you think of the high peaks poking out above the clouds. Thanks for reminding me the Appalachian “Mountains” are just glorified hills.

Still not sure what my plan is going to be at this point. Not sure if I would want to travel to Nebraska, plus other scheduling factors may get in the way of travelling too far afield.
