I wonder if there are any good mgtow video games out there. I have a PS3 but have not used it much for playing games. The games I have played have been prety boring and repetative, I’m not really into shooting or fighting. I’m not much into sport either so sports sims are out too. I’m more into mind games, I quite liked LA Noire.

I have to have surgery soon and will be laid up for a couple of montgs after that so I was thinking about something to pass the time.

    Hey Spacemonkey, i just +1’d you. That’s a slick-lookin’ 500!

I never played LA Noire, so not sure. But i’ve been playing the Civilization series (Sid Meier) for the better part of 20 years or so. It’s strategic, with a bunch of history thrown in, includes technological development, cultural development, diplomacy, warfare, trade, etc. It’s my go-to when i don’t feel like playing shooting games.

“Pirates” is also pretty good, but it fairly heavy on the fighting. Railroads (in the same vein as Railroad Tycoon, but slightly more modern) is also a good strategy/economics game if you’re in to that kinda thing.

Hope that gives you some good ideas. Do you mind if i ask what kind of surgery?

Hi MattNYC, thanks for pushing me over the 500 mark and thanks for the recommendations, I’ll look into them.

I have to get my hips replaced, its a routine job but it does take a long time to heal.

Both hips at once? Best wishes.

Yeah, its called a bilateral. It’s going to be a bit of a bitch but I’d rather get both done and out of the way now than just have one now knowing the other will have to be done later. Thanks for the best wishes.

Good luck with your surgery. As for games you could try out the Mass effect series and just shut down all the female characters wanting to get in a relationship :b

I agree with Matt. Civilization is a lot of fun and fits your “mind” requirement. Warning: it can be very addictive.

I also don’t much like (realistic) fighting games, though I do still play Diablo II. At least you’re only killing skeletons and demons.
The Civilization series is a great one. I have 2, 3 and 4. I have heard that 5 is not so hot, but I haven’t seen it. Many, many hours playing those because you can win without fighting, and it’s never the same game twice. Also Roller Coaster Tycoon 2, and Tropico are still on my playlist. I like being able to create my own scenarios and such.
I used to play Age of Empires, Warcraft, and such, but I never liked how the game just turned into a battle at some point, and everything gets wiped out or you run out of resources. Same with Starcraft.
I know, all a bunch of old stuff.
I have been looking for a new game that has simulation characteristics and an interesting gameplay without a lot of stress-inducing combat. I don’t really want to kill anybody, or even pretend to. I also have no interest in playing online with or against anybody. So far, no luck. I play on a PC, so I’m not familiar with any of the big console games.

If you don’t want to kill anybody but would still like action, the Batman Arkem series might be for you. I am play Batman Arkam Asylum right now. Batman beats henchman unconscious, but he refuses to kill. Dishonored is a stealth game in which you can kill if you so desire, but it never forces you to. In my last play through of the game, I didn’t kill a single enemy. Also, its good to hear about another gamer who doesn’t play online. I am a single player only guy myself.

I am trying to do less and less online. In the old days I used to play Diablo with some friends at my house over the LAN. We always played co-op, and it was a lot of fun.
A very short period of playing Facebook online games cured me of any further desire to do that. All that s~~~’s in the dustbin.
The kind of games I like now are intricate and involve more building and less tearing down. I actually liked some of the farming type games, but I have no interest in interacting with other players at all.
