Tuna hunts were part of the site when I first came here in 2016.

And I laughed for hours reading them. Back then, they were funny without the in-fighting, there were also plenty of sea trawler and cat pictures without me posting them… I just took over that “market share” or “office” and tried to perfection it’s presentation.

And I saw some of the average +1 numbers my cats have gotten and so I never saw a need to stop them because “the usual fun spoiling subjects” were bitching about them.

Like in business: There is always someone bitching and obeying those that want you to work for a lower price will surly bankrupt you.

But I hardly post cats on serious threads, which there are plenty of that deserve to be one day sorted into a static Hyper Top Gun section.

BUT:

Funny, “short and spicy” Tuna hunts were part of the reason for joining here.

After the fun, KM just regularly shifted them to the Litter Box and all was in peace.

Then came the military guys and asked for “rules and regulations”…

Which is now.

If you cut out the in-fighting, then these threads would still be very funny and sometimes useful to read.

Way better than some other 2-word or 1 pic “topic” posted here, I am explicitly NOT wanting to “value” or “devalue” anything as not “topic-worthy” here.

I am not the speech enforcer and when I go into a record shop, I can’t attack the owner for also distributing music “I don’t like”. I just walk past it and leave if I am in the “wrong shop” for my taste.

Fact is:

Trolls – even if they are hired professionals – are mentally and psychologically not on par with the average intelligence here.

Here we have the class of men who were ripped off by women in divorce because they were at a social level making them “rip-worthy” to begin with.

Poor men with low paying jobs hardly ever get ripped off in a divorce.

So we here are top-earners with skilled jobs and plenty of experience. Most of us are higher in mental capabilities than those “in high places” who try to judge us.

And for a troll to “keep up with us”, he would have to “be someone” himself. But then he would no longer have the need to work for some agency…

I would suggest repeated “KM Newsletter”-like email messages and broadcast notices that will eventually reach the active posters here.
But this can also backfire by accidentally activating sleepers to do exactly what we don’t want them to do.

Some time ago, I suggested de-activation of the bounce feature for such material. Maybe give the OP the power to de-activate it, so it falls behind on the forum thread stack.

That is all that these dumb trolls achieve: Motivating me to post more.

Like I already posted: I would volunteer cleaning up the forum topic stack and creating a static archive next to the forums for easy read access.

Making it visible and relevant. 20 k threads would condense down to maybe 3 k of “timeless wisdom” adding value to the life of men.

I would cut out all “current day” and “political event” threads and only keep those relevant things in an archive with a separate and detailed topic link structure.

I was full of optimism a few months ago thinking that the site was under control and was heading in the right direction but.. sadly it would seem that there’s no one at the helm of this ship… we’re bound to hit an iceberg!

We as a forum already discussed this. You take a handful of people – well respected members here and give them the power to close threads, move them to the litter box, and suspend posting privileges. An idea that seems even more logical based on recent events now than ever, and more people are coming around to the idea based on what’s happened. The SMS alerts and all that stuff, and reporting members was supposed to be the alternative to having mods. Clearly that hasn’t worked. Mashing the button with no response isn’t working.

Keymaster has done a wonderful job with the site, and for the most part with maintaining it, but the thing is, this site has gotten too big for him to handle on his own. This isn’t the days of 500 registered users anymore. Folks have been waiting for approval since last year, the contact mail log is backlogged. People are contacting Keymaster with no response because he’s months behind.

I don’t know if he’s just lost interest, or been busy. Either way, I’m not faulting the guy for having a life. And I’m not trying to pin blame. But people have offered to help around here. Keymaster expressed never liking the idea of having to moderate this site at all. He simply believed it’d police itself. That isn’t a realistic expectation. But the reality is, you HAVE to have SOME level of moderation. Otherwise, why bother kicking trolls? Why bother kicking manginas, or white knights? Why bother kicking disrupters? You have to draw a line at some point.
