Some martial arts count as sports. If that fits this forum, I’m all in.

I’d say martial arts is a way of life.

“Way of life,” I agree (!); and I would point out that boxing, wrestling, judo, fencing, and some shooting events are all official Olympic sports.

It is definitely a way to get out there and do something to keep yourself in shape.  What is more significant about it is that it is something you can do to gain a sense of accomplishment.  I have a good friend who used to do martial arts and I think it is something you can benefit from.

Jimbo wrote, “it is something you can benefit from.” True, and it may turn out to be life saving, which is a major benefit I think!

I’ve started a few different martial arts in my time unfortunately I haven’t been able to stick to them. The last one was Brazilian Jiu jitsu and I have to say when you find the right gym and the right training partners it can give you a great sense of brotherhood and accomplishment and  The same can be said of any other martial art.

Absolutely; we use to practice 3 in a circle, 1 gets mad, or shows any emotion, the other 2 have a free for all on the MAD guy, that’s how I learned discipline under fire. We used foot, shin, and face protection, but still saw stars now and then. I like UFC Octagon, It’s real!

I practiced Karate for a year. We had the sensei, a great guy, and several senpais (experienced students) who trained us sometimes.

The sparring was mma-style, with gloves with fingers, but by far the most difficult part was when one of the senpais trained us. The guy was a powerhouse, looking like Azog the white orc from the Hobbit movies. His motto was: “breathers are for pussies” and between sparring rounds he made us do pushups or jumping squats or some other type of excruciating exercise.

Nowadays, I’m a bit busy and cannot attend those courses anymore (at least for now).

worst decision i ever made when i was young, was quitting karate, thinking i was “done” with it, which i took for 8 years, and the only reason im not a “black belt” is the fact that i sucked at teaching…gee, Thanks Sensei, that really helped my ego, no matter how true it is!  there is only one regret in life that i will allow myself, and this is it.  However, i shall fix it!

My peace of mind is worth more then your vagina...cunt.
