Man saves suicidal wife, and gets convicted of assault for the way he saved her

A British man discovered his wife’s suicide note, so went to save her. He found her in her car drunk and hysterical. So he cuffed her around the head (understandable, just like the police used to do to naughty children in the 1950s) and dragged her home. I’m not surprised he had to drag her, because I’d bet my life savings she was screaming like a child. I’ve had to drag drunk girlfriends home who would scream and throw themselves down in the street and refuse to get up, like children do. Anyway, he has been convicted of assault for giving her a little smack and dragging her, so now has to do 100 hours of community service unpaid work (litter picking, removing graffiti, etc) and pay £170 in fines. Oh, plus a criminal record.

For me, the saddest part is his almost Orwellian response akin to “I love big brother” at the end of 1984. It was “I don’t know if I’d do exactly the same [smack and drag her]. I like to know I learn from my mistakes”.

For anyone else finding themselves in such a situation protect yourself first, the minute you find the note lock the door and call the police, let them deal with the mental case and once it’s all over again divorce, unreasonable behaviour.

At this point she has an assault conviction against him, he either ends it right now whatever the cost or she owns his ass, with prior form the one phone call will end him.

Not advisable, first question that would be asked is why you didn’t alert them as soon as you found out, without a legit reason for late reporting you’d probably be held liable for whatever she f~~~s up not to mention the mental hit of knowing you could have stopped it if she succeeds in killing an innocent. Also if you’ve gone with the lock-in approach it will be far easier to let plod deal with her if she shows up at your front door and they already know she’s off the rails rather than appearing to be a standard domestic. Finally records, getting it logged officially every time she pulls such s~~~ will make it much easier when the time comes to file a restraining order on her ass.

It is a LOT worse in the UK. In the UK it is considered “domestic violence” for a husband to withhold any of the money of his paycheck from his wife.

My buddy saved his girlfriend and she hated him for doing so, and took all of her anger out on him and tried to destroy his life.
