This is slightly unusual as the females normally hunt and kill.

I don’t see other females around so they could be elsewhere and this lioness is maybe babysitting cubs etc.

She also seems inexperienced and by the size has just matured.

The male normally lays around and rests so that he can go do some bad s~~~ to intruders or defend his bitches from admirers.

However, guys are guys and when the women are f~~~ing things up ….. well … white knight mode kicks in.

Thinking now it does seem the pride is off elsewhere and this was a delivery by hoof.

This male took a big risk as doing this solo could have injured him to the point of death. A injured paw out there is no laughing matter.

There are normally a minimum of three lionesses for this sort of kill..

He took her job, showed her up in front of a crowd and hurt her feelings.

I suspect he’s with HR as I type ?

I remember a lion documentary when I was in high school where a huge pack of hyenas were constantly at war with a pride of lions. Constantly harassing the lionesses and stealing food. The hyenas were matriarchal, led by their queen. Finally, after this going on long enough, the lion of the pride just burst out of the bushes, chased down the queen and snapped her twiggy neck. Not 1 hyena got in his way or defended her. Actually, they got the hell out of Dodge. The local tribesman had a name for that lion that couldn’t have been more appropriate. ‘He who greets with fire’. Never forgot that show. The last few minutes of it are on youtube.
