Sounds like a bad 50’s sci-fi flick but I s~~~ you not. They’re actually going to try and create an Android whom they’ll consider god.
It doesn’t get more demented that.

“Several high profile names including Elon Musk and ex-Googler, Anthony Levandowski, are on a quest to accelerate what’s been described as the “technological singularity”, an evolutionary step in which we merge with machines.

There’s a popular theory that artificial superintelligence will trigger a huge surge in technological growth, surpassing our own species and resulting in massive changes to our civilisation.

Anthony Levandowski, former Uber and Google self-driving car engineer famously founded his own church based on this idea.
‘Way to the Future’ is based on the premise that Levandowski, according to reports, will help create an AI god.
Documents from 2015 that were last week published by Wired state that his religion’s aim was: “To develop and promote the realisation of a godhead based on artificial intelligence and through understanding and worship of the godhead contribute to the betterment of society.”

Of course, it won’t be plain sailing and there’s plenty of technological obstructions that scientists will have to overcome before we’re all stored in the cloud.

What could POSSIBLY go wrong?

If there is even a 1% chance it could result in humanity (which includes me and my own — otherwise I don’t give much of a f~~~) could be destroyed, that is 1% too much.

Possible outcomes, from science fiction:
1) Vaal or Landru (and a stagnant civilization) from Star Trek
2) Skynet from Terminator
3) BORG from Star Trek: Next Gen

It is interesting in the Terminator franchise that due to the temporal cold war pushing back the timeline for doomsday, technology advances and each newer version of Skynet become more and more human than the previous version of Skynet.

It is nteresting.
I recently read an interview that James Cameron and the director for the next Terminator film had given to some magazine I forget which. They both expressed serious concerns about the development of A.I in conjunction with military applications. They stopped short to say that fiction was fast becoming reality.

We have made machines that can move faster than us. We have made machines that are stronger than us. The day you make a machine that is smarter than us and capable of self improvement. Is the day everyone you have ever known will be dead before night fall, the power of such a thing is beyond human comprehension.
