This has been going around for almost a year now, I’ve been very passionate about lifting and exercising for the last 3+ years but lately I don’t even want to step foot in the gym, I don’t feel like going there even if I go I rush my workout just to leave that place.

It wasn’t like that a year ago, but right now for some reason I feel like that, I’ve lost a lot of weight(around 20lbs) and seeing myself losing it makes me even more depressed. Don’t get me wrong I am happy aside from my sport life but after years of hardwork seeing myself losing that passion hurts me, I remember why I started but now my body feels tired my legs feel tired and my mind feels tired I can’t seem to shake it off and I can’t find the reason behind it.

I don’t know guys I’m really lost, what would you guys recommend? Have you ever felt the same?

When I have a pen in my hands, it's lethal.

Trust me sir I say the same thing everyday I wake up, for instance I woke up around 3:30am today but not for preparing a breakfast and get ready to go to gym, the lifestyle still continues but my mind+body connection doesn’t respond anymore.

Any help is appreciated by the way.

Let’s look at the source of this — Why did you workout in the first place? To impress the ladies or for the sake of your own health?

I think you should always maintain some discipline when it comes to exercising but don’t put a lot of stress on your body just keep it in moderation.

As to the feeling you’re talking about I can assure you many of us, if not all, have been there but the primary reason one does anything is for his own benefit otherwise it’s a waste of time and it won’t go anywhere.

That’s interesting though that you’ve lost weight. I haven’t worked out in a bit and I’m gaining I guess it’s because I’m Greek and consume things like pacman lol.

    Amigo.

    I have been there.

Tomorrow, find a quiet place, no one around you. bring nothing to this place…have nothing in reach, a totally empty area..

For me this place was a racquetball court, It was also the peak at Angel’s Landing in Utah and a picnic table on an empty highway in Oklahoma.

Clear your mind. Take your time doing this. lay, sit stand, down dog whatever, empty thoughts, worries, let it all go. Be aware of your breathing. You want to remove as much of the autopilot in your life as possible.

Start talking to yourself out loud. What is bothering me? What do I want, What am I looking for? What is in my way of achieving the goals. Is there a goal? You want introspective questions here, deep scary secrets, fears, roadblocks. YOu need to break these down yourself. At first you will feel silly. its ok, laugh at your self. Ask the question again and quietly wait for an answer. Wait. Wait. Wait. I waited 3 hours for the answer sitting in my backyard ready to self immolate.

Your conscious mind autopilot reactive brain has been running things without asking the deep inner brain for any input.

Ask your self questions, and verbally reply out loud. The answers are there, if you allow the deep inner voice to have a say.

This voice is not afraid to give you the answers, but are you afraid of asking the questions?

Ask yourself why hasn’t the workouts been a source of pleasure and pride lately?

I just asked myself that question, my answer is I have put so much concentration on the mind and the pursuit for knowledge and new skills that the body does not seem as important right now.

So I asked, is the body healthy? Answer, no.
Q: what happens when the body fails more?
    A: body dies
Q what good is knowledge when the body dies
A Uhhh you got me there, asshole subconscious.

I was a bike racer, I am 80 pounds over my racing weight, granted I will never be as fit as I was when I was 19, but 80 pounds FFS, that’s 2 5 gallon water jugs. F~~~ this, get back on the bike! I didn’t ride today. I asked myself why I didn’t ride.

A: stopping is easier than going.
Question, what would make the going easier?
A make a better schedule. I was riding in the late afternoon, but the weather pattern has changed, it rains in the afternoon now.
Q can you ride in the morning
A yes, if I alter my schedule.

I was frustrated by the weather, and just moved on without the deep thinking.

try this yes it is cheezy, and maybe it will break you loose brother.

It’s common for men to get bored of going to the gym, honestly take a month off, or scale back your work outs for a while. Spend less time at the gym, or less days if you can. I used to work out 4 times a week but now it’s only 3. I work out personally to be healthy, and thats what should matter most, not having massive muscles.

When I have more money and free time I’ll probably push mysef up to 5 days but for now I’m just trying to tread water and keep some momentum.

It’s no different from any hobby or job, sometimes you need a long break, to feel reinvigorated.

Why did you workout in the first place? To impress the ladies or for the sake of your own health?

I have always been doing it for me, not just health but also for my future dreams. I remember the first time singing up for a gym like yesterday, I was weak and one day I wanted to put an end to it, no more complaining since then.

As to the feeling you’re talking about I can assure you many of us, if not all, have been there but the primary reason one does anything is for his own benefit otherwise it’s a waste of time and it won’t go anywhere.

See I always used gym to get away from stress, problems etc. it was like a therapy. Now me feeling like not wanting to go there is also because I lost weight lost strength etc it’s probably related to that. I’m not denying that but I can’t seem to get back to working hard, I go to gym twice and skip it a week, 2 weeks or even more.

That’s interesting though that you’ve lost weight. I haven’t worked out in a bit and I’m gaining I guess it’s because I’m Greek and consume things like pacman lol.

I live in Turkey so you can imagine the food here are also a “weight gainer” ahaha, but I haven’t been eating much. I can lose and gain weight according to my diet. I haven’t been eating or cooking lately, everything went downhill.

btw guys, I’ve been thinking about buying a pre-workout or protein powder just to motivate me to go to the gym but I’m not even sure if they also would sit on the corner, would you recommend a pre-workout though? I’ve never tried one before.

I will try that, This monday I will do as you say, I hope I can ask the right question to solve the problem. thank you very much.

I’ve been doing that actually if you count the days I’ve step foot in the gym this year it’s around 15 maybe or even less. But I’m not enjoying staying at home either, my mind is telling me to workout but my body says otherwise it feel really tired I don’t know why. maybe I should see a doctor I don’t know.

Try changing up your routine. Bicycle riding or jogging through new neighborhoods. I find that if I stay with one routine for too long it becomes tedious. Change things up. Variety is the spice of life.

For long term health it is best to just ride a bike or swim and only lift light to moderate for strength maintenance. When I was young I did the bulk up for the ladies s~~~, f~~~ that, it is a lot of work and will just wear you down over time. The cost of food and time is just not worth it. If you are doing it for you, stay lighter, the older you will be grateful from your joints to your blood pressure. Odds of living longer go way up the lighter you maintain your weight long term within a healthy range.

can’t really say I enjoy other sports but bicycle riding is a good idea thanks, I might also change my workout routine too and see if that somehow helps.

I’ll probably stick with moderate lifting but that doesn’t mean I don’t swim or ride a bike but have to admit that they’re not a priority in my routine.

I agree with the poster(s) saying to change it up.

Not for life, but just to get you through this funk.
You’ll know when it is time to go back to lifting, because you will really want to do it.

This guy has a bunch of HIIT routines you can do outside, or even in your home.
Maybe give a few a try, just to maintain what you have and give your body some new challenges.
The same routine just gets old and boring.

Of course. Motivation happens in waves. You go through a lull. It’s gotta be normal – and expected.

How are you supposed to go go go go go go go…. and not ever run out of the juice or motivation? I wouldn’t place that much importance on it, or over think it too much. I took a few lazy years myself after busting my ass for 20 years, but then it came back.

Even on a day-to-day basis, if I go hit it hard for 5 days in a row….. day 6 and 7 are a CHORE. But if I hit it hard 3 days and take 2 or 3 off, day 6 and 7 are like a second wind. I have MORE boost if I give myself a long enough break.

I fat-shame myself to the gym.
I don’t say “YAY!! TODAY IS GONNA BE A GREAT DAY!!! YIPPEE!! GYM TIME!!”

No, I tell myself “get your f~~~ing lazy ass to the gym and don’t make any excuses”. And then I drag my ass there, and after the workout, I’m always glad I went. Motivation has to come from somewhere. You can’t always conjure it up. To me this is normal.

If you keep doing what you've always done... you're gonna keep getting what you always got.

    It could be LOW TESTOSTERONE.

Not a bad idea to get your Total and Free Testosterone levels checked.

Do you have any hobbies that physical strength?

I have started training again so that I can do my archery properly, I am also planning for learning how to fight with a sword. Martial arts is on the list to.

Do you set goals for your training? That is an important part. Men like the feeling of accomplishment. It’s the feeling when you build something, create something or when you finish your poetry.

That I might do, I usually work more powerlifting style maybe I really was getting heavy since it’s not cardio realted, I might start walking, running HIIT etc. see if it will help.

Some say force yourself at least 3-4 weeks and you will get back on track, I’ve been trying to do just that but everytime I fail and take a day off a day becomes a week and it goes on. from this monday forwar no more excuses, I will try and experiment every adivce that has been given here.

    that I might also check.

I usually work on strength rather than aesthetic looks. And until last year everything was going great, 265 lbs squat 350 lbs deadlift etc but now seeing myself struggling 180 lbs squat really p~~~es me off, I know it’s all my fault but I’ve lost the willpower that I used to have. Maybe I need to do other things until I get back into that mindset again.
