I have another 38 to 48 to go but, this is big for me. I’m diabetic with both significantly reduced renal function and heart disease. Perseverance is a big one for me. I have a hard time with it. Any insights on how you guys push through when you don’t feel like it would be awesome.
I avoid sugar and starch as a year round policy. It has gotten so I don’t like sweets anymore, so the craving is gone.

Anonymous18Congrats brother. That’s quite an impressive feat.
I have failed more than I care to remember to wake up at 5 and head to gym. It’s a s~~~ty nagging feeling.
I have been making it lately and all I can say is the little voice in your head that sounds very reasonable and convincing to stay home…. There needs to be an override command. And it doesn’t come using more rational thought. Excuses are VERY convincing. To oneself.
It’s hard at times but I repeat the goal in my head. And what needs to be done. It needs to be done. I don’t have to like it. I don’t. But it needs to be done.
Coincidentally just this morning next to the elliptical were 2 brothers having a rather philosophical discussion. One repeated verbatim what I often told myself – if you don’t decide for yourself, others will. And then he said – by not making a decision you have made your decision.
Wise words.
In short, just keep pushing. Motivation is an unnatural human emotion. It needs loads nurturing to cultivate the fruits…. A slow tedious process.
I think Tony Robbins said it best, don’t use the word “should” but must. I must eat health vs I should eat healthy.
Write you goals for health, it’s a stronger motivator successful people write goals even small ones."If pussy was a stock it would be plummeting right now because you've flooded the market with it. You're giving it away too easy." - Dave Chapelle
Thanks guys. I’ve never had this much to lose before but I’m already starting to feel better. I was 248 in July when I had a stent. I was 218 yesterday. My doc said 180 would be a good weight for me at 5’7″. Now it’s time to get some cardio going. I see myself at 180 now. I was doing cardio but listened to the interior slacker. Back to it. I can rationalize my way out of anything, but this is serious momentum that I don’t want to stop.
Find something you enjoy the most, whether it be cycling, rowing, hiking, something that you can become addicted to and will be that much easier. If you look at as a kind of ‘work’ or dedication, only going to add that much mental resistance. Once you can get in the flow and your mind craves those endorphin rushes, then you will get REALLY fit. Maybe join a sports team, LOTS of options my friend. Keep up the progress!
Congrats on losing the weight, it’s always a great accomplishment and confidence booster. Before adding my two cents, I lost over 75 Lbs and have kept it off 5 years later. Do listen to your body, sometimes your going to be really sore so take a day off. If you get hurt there will be set backs.
I also had a reason to get in shape namely my job and scuba diving. I work as an occupational therapist with autistic kids and one of my kids looked at me one day and said I was fat. It was a total wake up call, his assistant wanted to rebuke him but I told her no, I appreciated his honesty. I was also doing him and my other kids a disservice by not being at my full potential. I am also passionate about scuba diving and underwater photography and my weight was negatively impacting theses hobbies.
Point is keep the reasons why you are doing this when you wake up in the morning to do your workouts.

Bulletdodger clued me in to some YouTube videos by a guy named Greg Plitt motivational speaker. He doesn’t mince the bulls~~~!!!
Something that may help with silencing that nagging little voice that tries to derail us from training…. MUSIC!
Make a play list of your favorite tunes that light that fire up and keeps it burning. CAUTION however, don’t overtrain and injure yourself…. that will cause a physical and mental drawback. Remember that no one can climb a mountain in one day.Good luck, keep us up to date.
How to keep going? Look back and see just how far you’ve come. And just keep telling yourself ‘I can do this’.
