Hi, is anyone here a lorry driver in UK (or Europe for that matter)? I’m thinking of getting a license, but not sure if it’s worth spending the 3 thousand pounds it costs, and whether it’s a good career. I’ve heard it’s not worth it. I was watching a video on youtube of some guy saying that most of the companies would only pay you a little more than the minimum wage, that the job is hard and it’s just not worth it and he wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. What are your thoughts?

I can’t say about the EU/UK, however, it’s the most popular job in all 50 states here in the US.

I imagine it’s like any other job — good and bad. Seems like a great way to avoid dealing with human resources departments, etc.

I have heard the same that companies aren’t paying much plus zero hour contracts.

A mate of mine has his HGV 1 and to be fair he earns in execess of 30k per year which is pretty good in the UK. Although he does alot of hours, he doesn’t mind it.

He is self employed though, which gives you more leverage over haulage firms that take the p~~~ where pay is concerned. You can just tell them to shove it.

Been thinking of doing it myself as i work construction and hate this time of year on sites.

Plus stuff always needs moving, so pretty good in a recession too.

    Good Luck.

Robots and self driving vehicles will be doing it soon.

Become a plumber or an electrician. The future is robot repair.

60,000 vacancies in the UK for lorry drivers. I have looked into this and the total cost of getting a hgv license is about £1700. If your paying over that you are being f~~~ed over. Don’t work for less than £10 an hour, loads of work out there!
