    Hi,

I bet you all heard women are getting older than men. I think this is true and the statistics are correct. A few years ago I heard a report telling it is like this but only for married men and women. If men and women are single the ratio is exactly the opposite. Men will have a four to five year longer life expectancy then women if they are single.
Right now the average life expectancy in Germany is 77 years for men and 85 for women. What’s not told this is of course with the majority in some kind of a relationship. The report I mentioned told something of 82 years average life for single men and 78 years for single women.

Does anyone know some more about it or maybe even has a source?

    Best,
    Alex

If you’re married, you won’t live any longer, but it will seem like forever!

For single guy, every day is a new beginning with many possibilities; you continuously set your own path and can always make adjustments if that seems the right thing to do.

What I do know about age stats is that men die a lot more often from dangerous jobs and wars, this is the main reason why women live longer. Also, I once read a study that men and women of the same height have a more similar lifespan. Theory is that the taller you are the harder your heart has to work to pump blood to it’s extremities, much like an overweight person’s cardiovascular system is taxed by added weight. Having read this study and then observing society for a few decades I can only conclude it is true. I notice most people I have known to live very long are almost always short people. There are very few tall or extremely tall people who make it past 80, yet tons of little old men and women still scooting around. Another factor may be that the larger the individual the more he has eaten in life, and therefore the more he is potentially exposed to harmful substances over time.

    Gentlemen,

quick update, I found the study. Unfortunately it is in German and I did not found an english version, but I am sure there is.

In short, the study found out that men and women living under similar circumstances but not in a relationship (in this case monks and nuns) the life expectancy is equal or a little longer for men than women.
