    Hi guys.
I live a very minimalist lifestyle and have been doing so for the last 5-6 years. However, lately I’ve been thinking about simplifying my life even further.
One of the best experiences of my life was traveling in Asia for 3 months with just my backpack – I had everything I needed in that backpack and I felt free like a bird.
However, one of my main hobbies at home is music. I really like doing music, and it’s been a part of my life since my childhood, but doing music production / composing requires two things in order for it to be productive and fun (at least in my opinion):
    – Gear: at the very minimum a musical instrument, but I prefer a studio with monitors, a powerful computer, recording gear etc.
    – Space: Usually you need a studio or a rehearsal space in order to play instruments out loud without getting complaints from neighbours.

My problem is not the costs involved in this, even though it can easily become a very expensive hobby, but mostly the necessity of a physical space and music gear.
I’ve lately felt “locked down” due to my gear and my need for a rehearsal space in addition to my appartment. I hate not having the ability to throw everything I own into a couple of suitcases and go. I’ve also had periods in my life when music was not a huge part of it (when I focused on other hobbies of mine, such as language learning), so I know I can live a full and happy life without it. So I’m actually contemplating quitting music and only focus on hobbies / projects that do not require gear from now on. Also, free hobbies, such as language learning etc., would be ideal. However, I do really enjoy learning about music and music composition, so I’m not sure about this…

    What do you guys think?
Have you guys experiences similar things in your life?

If you can afford the music “Hobby”, and you still enjoy it, keep it. What’s the rush to get rid of it ? Can’t you get rid of it rather easily if you decide that you need/want to go globetrotting in the future ?

To me “minimizing” is all about cutting out all the things and/or activities that you don’t NEED, OR don’t give ya some form of Satisfaction in Living. It sounds to me that lumping Music in that category would be unnecessarily depriving yourself of something that enriches YOUR LIFE.

It’s ALL up to YOU !!

I figure that is the of the only downsides to having a dog. So I plan on buying a camper next year to take him on vacation with me.

My son is a musician. He keeps a set of recording equip., full drum kits, guitars, and etc. here at my home. When he’s out in another state (doing his domestic violence punish work) he has his macbook pro, a very small keyboard, and misc stuff that will fit in his backpack. I believe he’s got an acoustic guitar and a bass guitar at a friends apartment there as well. He rents a rehearsal room by the hour when needed. He has his tracking work in Dropbox so he can access that wherever he’s at.
