I’ll share a quick story with you that many of you may be able to relate to. I grew up in a Christian home. I’ve always been quite the skeptic, so by the time I was in high school, I was struggling with the family faith. I really gave it a try and the fear of mortality slowed my conversion, but by graduation, I was more or less an atheist. Now for how this relates to the topic…

I was angry for a short time and that emotional state made it tempting to view them and me as opposites. However I had a thought: I can throw away everything I was taught and act like they are complete fools, or I can accept that I’ve decided to go a different path but that doesn’t mean I can’t learn from them. My beliefs don’t mean that I must disregard everything they say. This is not a me versus them situation. I will learn from everything I can. I will always challenge my own beliefs.

I have been reminded of this due to various disputes I’ve come across on the forums. I always try to let both sides of a dispute influence my own thinking, while remaining skeptical of course. Even if the dispute ends in pety bickering, I consider it an opportunity to analyse myself and learn from others.

In a way, I apply this to mgtow too. As much as I dislike feminism, I must admit mgtow grew as a response to it. Maybe I never would’ve found mgtow without feminism challenging the traditional gender relations. I try to view even them in a somewhat positive light.

How do you approach different opinions in others?

Tiga ..i let others have whatever their opinions are , and i expect the same courtesy extended to me ..it doesn’t always work out like that and sometimes it’s o.k to disagree …even agree to disagree …
learning all the time too man ..but sometimes motherf~~~ers get stupid with their opinions and THAT’S when you can walk away or start shutting them down ..
probably, i go for shutting them down, also depends on what it’s about ..i guess you gotta choose your fights or you could be fighting all the time ..

I do the same as you, it is called wisdom, and you have obtained it at a much younger age than I did. I particularly find this useful when understanding politics and world views. I get a lot of my news from outside of the country I live in, this is the only way in my opinion to have a decent understanding of the world. Most Americans I know are fed a very narrow and one sided point of view, this leaves them intellectually crippled. Basically, if one were to judge a court case, would it not be wise and fair to hear from all sides?

    You are a smart kid.

I’ve believed and understood for years that religion is mostly just designed to control human beings. It was never made to survive against the internet though and I think religion will disappear in the next 2-3 generations. I was raised christian and forced to go to church until I was 18. Nothing has changed in my life except I spend my sundays working out and reading.

I’ve been an atheist since grade 8 and questioned how much of religion was real since grade 5. Although I am currently interested in Buddism as it resonates with my personality. It’s based on the belief that all humans have suffering and that it is unavoidable. If you die you will likely come back again and the kind of person you are will dictate how your next life goes. In this way you never really have to worry about death.

Buddhists are minimalists so I always imagine having a nice apartment with mostly neccessities and spending a great deal of my life traveling. It’s the only religion I might remotely consider as it never shames and accepts everyone no matter what kind of flaws they have. It’s more of a philosophy than religion seeking happiness and enlightenment at the end of it all.

    @ Joe

Thanks. I also know a guy who likes to get his news from foreign sources. I think he has a German news outlet that he uses to read about u.s. politics. He used to joke that they would say something like “There goes those foolish Americans again”.

    @ Hitman

    I agree 100%.

As George Harrison used to sing “all things must pass”. I assume religion will but then it will return some day. I also am influenced by eastern philosophy/religion.
