This post is based on my reply to “Kicked out of college for not having a relationship.”

A larger issue which is happening more and more, and which seems to be largely an American idiosyncrasy, is the lack of respect for one’s private life, and attacking one’s professional life. Think of Kevin Spacey who lost his lead role in House of Cards with rumors circulating over his sex life, and now can’t find work, or The Cosby Show removed from syndication after Bill’s conviction. As the audience, I don’t care what you imagine Bill to have been doing on his own time with or without women or hookers or drugs or anything, really, his work is damn fine television, is pro-family and educational, and pro-black American, and should continue to circulate. Instead we’re seeing a caustic blend of hate, ad hoc censorship, and invasion of privacy in a charge being led by claims to political correctness, although there is nothing politically correct about professionally steamrolling citizens due to rumors about their personal lives. The project seems in the hands of the political extreme left, who as we know have a strange list of rules all their own, for which they give themselves a pass, when in many cases they would do well to censor their own bad form.

Anyways respect for a man’s personal business is a vital element in a free society, and is on the demise. When I moved to the States I was shocked to have friends openly ask me personal details abouty marriage or what I was doing with my personal time. I also refused to answer, which they found strange. I previously grew up in a culture where you don’t even ask a person’s name. That’s how much respect for privacy, anonymity, and freedom is out there, somewhere.
