I work in IT for an investment bank and it was the banks Christmas do last night, which I opted not to attend.
This morning a banker brings her corporate Blackberry to IT, explaining how she dropped the phone down the toilet at last night’s Christmas festivities. The phone switches on and appears to be operational apart from the touch screen no longer works. I explained to her that the phone will need to be replaced and paid for using her departments budget code. She’s perfectly fine with this, but ask if it’s possible to retrieve the photos on the blackberry – This is a little annoying given it’s a company blackberry and not intended for personal use. Anyway, I ask her to leave the device with me and I’ll get back to her later in the day.

I should re-iterate at this point that the device is a corporate device and belongs to the bank.
I hook the blackberry up to my pc, enter the device password, access the removable storage and head straight for porn archives that comprise her ‘camera’ folder. I Could not quite f~~~ing believe what I was seeing – several topless selfies, pics of her bf/husband going down on her and several pics of other activities that can probably be left to the imagination at this point. I can’t quite fathom the stupidity of bringing this device to IT unless she’d completely forgotten the content of these pictures, which is difficult to imagine, given the sheer amount of them.

I decided to wipe the device and tell her the pictures weren’t retrievable, doing her a HUGE f~~~ing favour. I can’t be certain but it’s likely this would have cost her job or at least have some disciplinary measures taken against her. I was convinced the penny would have dropped at some point but she sounded genuinely disappointed when I explained I couldn’t get her pictures back. My decision might not be a popular one with some MGTOW’S, but I’m a contractor here and really don’t want to be getting involved with this sort of thing and hey, it’s Christmas.

I thought I’d share this with you guys, just shows the total stupidity of some entitled c~~~s in the workplace.

I very much admire your approach to this opportunity. You are wise. As Don Corleone said, it is much better to have a friend who owes you a favor than to have an enemy waiting to avenge an insult.

Maybe hint to her that while it is regrettable the photos “could not be recovered,” despite your considerable skills and talents, she knows and you know (wink) that perhaps it is really best the photos were “lost.” Perhaps suggest you have seen compromising photos on others’ phones in the commission of your work, and others were fired.

Perhaps suggest to her that you have done her a service. And that someday–and that day may never come–you may call upon her to do a service for you. Until then she may accept this service from you as a Christmas gift.

You’re probably right. But, at least for me, a huge part of going my own way means doing what is right FOR ME. He did a good thing because it felt right for him. Whether she sees it that way or not is on her.

You have to look at yourself every morning in the mirror and lay down to sleep every night with your thoughts. Make sure you can look at that guy every morning and that you can sleep at night. The rest will take care of itself.

If she’s that upset at the pictures being gone, maybe she was going to use them to blackmail someone….. If that’s the case then Joller just did what was right for him and saved some poor bastard from being blackmailed by an evil bitch. That would be a win/win scenario.

I worked for my local council a few years back, and a colleague found a folder, crudely entitled ‘Porn’ in some guys personal drive on the network and reported it. My colleague came under an immense amount of scrutiny and red tape just for reporting the incident. It caused him a lot of stress and the the individual who’s personal drive it was, was never followed up on because it was believed someone had planted it there. You do have to look after yourself in these situations.

Dang man, I would not have done what you did. I would have let her get what’s coming to her. Women in the work place are terrible and do terrible things, not to mention as you make abundantly clear, they are not that smart either.
