Job Cuts

It’s a troubling time in my industry. Our crew was just told more layoffs are imminent. As I looked around the room most of the guys looked petrified. Some have families and others have child and ex wife payments.

I’ve been at this job many years and this is the worst I’ve seen it. The last several years I’ve been a mid level supervisor. Trained many guys and helped many more. I always told them treat everyone like they may be your boss someday. You just never know what may happen.

Many guys I’ve trained have moved on to other things and companies but I make a point to keep in touch with them. Sometimes just a random text to see how they’re doing.

Several hours after the meeting of doom I started receiving texts. Guys I had trained in the past heard about the layoffs.(the oilfield rumor network is amazing) By the end of yesterday I had three job offers from guys who used to work for me.

Just posting this for the young guys. You may not think your job is worth a s~~~ or is a dead end. Treat people good anyway. Mentor new guys, they remember who has helped them.

In my opinion, No Job is a Dead End Job !!

You NEVER know who you’re going to meet and how they could POSSIBLY influence your future either positively or negatively.

And I mught add, companies threaten layoffs to shed employees painlessly.

Ride it out, do NOT be a sucker.
