For years Russian oil and gas to Europe was extremely cheap and basically acted like a subsidy making European manufacturing competitive against that of America. Until this year Europe was only paying 40% less for gas than China, but now that China increased its friendship with Russia amidst Western escalations and propaganda, they’re the ones buying the cheap oil and gas while Europe now has to buy it elsewhere paying 30-40% more.

We still buy it here in the UK.

Yep. Europe does not have any significant fossil fuel or heavy metals resources for ‘industry’ and it dependent on Russia for gas. The obama administration tried to steer europe away from russian gas and claiming that US fracking would fill the gap but that was nonsense as its a very expensive process. Wind and other alternatives provide relatively small amounts of energy in comparison to energy dense fossil fuels thus in general europe is an area of risk in terms of in terms of energy availability.

Countries like denmark have been planning for this for over 30 years and have wind energy output that meets a large % of their domestic needs, but this is not feasible for most parts of europe with high population density.

Wrong. Europe has enough coal to last for centuries. It just can’t be used cleanly enough to meet Europe’s own environmental laws.

Yes. Im very aware of the situation and regulations I have worked extensively in the energy sector. Should have added the words “fossil fuels that it can utilise“. If the s~~~ hits the fan energy wise in years to come – coal and turf resources are likely to be utilised more imo regardless. Coal production in Europe is falling, imports increasing and Russia also has massive coal reserves.

I have worked extensively in the energy sector.

I’ve done the same since the early 80s.

Should have added the words “fossil fuels that it can utilise“.

No, not “can”. The phrase should read “fossil fuels that Europe wants to utilize.”

Europe, like the good hypocrite it is, has been exporting all the dirty work it doesn’t want to do for decades and energy resource extraction and refining is just part of that. Europe only cares about the environment within Europe’s borders. As long as all the nasty stuff occurs in a “faraway country between people of whom we know nothing” Europe can pretend it doesn’t matter.

They found 1 billion barrels of oils 60 miles west of Shetland and they are hoping to start drilling in early 2019.

No one really “moved” against Russia unless you consider trying to get your allies to not become dependent on Russian oil and natural gas as move against something.

Let the Russians and the Chinese dance together all they want. It’s an even bet on who screws over the other first. It reminds me of a situation where a man owes a bank a billion dollars. When he’s slow to make his payments….it’s hard to tell who has the upper hand, the debtor or the lender.

Europe has all the energy it needs. It has so much energy it found very little disruption after Germany shut down half of its nuclear power plants, which used to supply over 20 percent of its energy needs. Around 40 percent comes from coal, and there is plenty of coal in Eastern Europe. Europe has access to plenty of energy reserves but doesn’t want to mine or extract what it has for environmental reasons. Let Russia ruin its ecology pumping or digging the stuff.

As for the Chinese, they realize economies that are based on extracted resources are always limited in growth and for the most part make very little……..compared with the folks that use that resource to add value. They’ll use the cheap energy from Russia until they get a better deal elsewhere.

Russia for its part may want to keep closer tabs on what is happening in those energy fields in the east. Many of the towns that grow up around this trade in eastern Russia have Russian workers but everything else is Chinese. In some energy-industry cities by the border with China the population on the Russian side is 30 percent Chinese.

There are about 7 million Russian that live in that area, and right across the border ………about 70 million Chinese. This may end up where Russia made a deal with the devil.

This is why in a forest of trees as far as the eye can see and as far as you can drive on two or three tanks of gas I felt it wise for economic and security reasons to start burning the TREES!

Global corporations and their ties with governments (including the US and in the EU) have been taking advantage of lax or even non existent environmental regulations in countries around the world for decades. In many places water systems have been polluted and ground pollution has occurred resulting in many deaths and illnesses. E.g., mining companies in Mongolia polluted water systems and many people died, oil companies leaving sludge pits in South America that contaminated ground and water systems, the list goes on.

An interesting read that describes his personal involvement in these type of foreign project processes by US based corporations is ‘Confessions of an economic hitman’ by John Perkins.

They will continue to antagonize Russia because the ruling elite need an evil bogeyman to distract people, lest people look inward at their own countries and not like what they see.
