I’ve been hearing a lot lately about how many Christians are now calling ‘bullshhit’ on many of their own bible stories. Stuff like ‘Noah’s Ark’, ‘Jonah and the whale’, ‘The Exodus’ and even ‘Adam-n-Eve’ are now considered to be just fables by more and more Christians. I’d like to know how many of you still claim that the earth is only 6000 to 10,000 years old. I think that there are now fewer and fewer Theists who will still buy that.

What’s going on with this? What is causing so many ‘believers’ to back away from what is supposedly the absolutely true and ‘inerrant’ word of god? How do they even get to choose what to believe and what not to believe? How does that work?

OTOH, Muslims (if I understand correctly) are required to believe and accept every word in their holy book as literally true! They must believe in all of it! Is that their rule???

What is causing so many ‘believers’ to back away from what is supposedly the absolutely true and ‘inerrant’ word of god?

Part of it could be the fact that the Noah’s Ark story was originally the true and “inerrant” word of Enkidu, as commanded to Atrahasis (a.k.a. “Noah”).

Add to that the total lack of any external documentation or archaeological evidence for the Exodus, the impossibility of a Adam-Eve genetic bottleneck, and the story of Jonah was originally humorous political satire misunderstood by later scholars (whom it was indirectly satirizing). And then there are the scholarly paradoxes in the bible, its internal inconsistencies, and on and on.

In other words, you cannot take the bible as the literal, infallible word of god because it contains multiple, mutually conflicting words, and they can’t all be “the absolute one truth”.

Muslims (if I understand correctly) are required to believe and accept every word in their holy book as literally true!

There’s a reason why the Islamic world has been continually culturally regressing from the heights of the pre-Islamic Persian era and even now remains stuck in the middle ages.

The Noah’s Ark story in particular has significance for me. I remember, being a little kid in Sunday school, when hearing the story being told and thinking to myself “Do grown-ups really, actually believe this shhit”? It was the Noah’s Ark story that first planted the seed of Atheism in me.

But how do Christian Theists reconcile in their own minds that there are in fact multiple flood/ark stories from different cultures and beliefs differing only in the characters’ names and details? It just phucks me up knowing that there are today grown, educated and mature adults that absolutely believe stories that just couldn’t possibly be true…

Those are from the Bible? I thought Noahs Ark was just a sweet Russell Crowe flick and that Adam n Eve was an adult toys website. I learn something new everyday!

My only question, off topic sorry, why are we not killing Iranians right now for seizing that British vessel? By the way, congrats on Boris Johnson.

I deleted my typical slander against towelheads. But Iam surprised that theyre getting away with it.

I agree with Sidecar, theyre finally admitting the Bible is more of a historical work of artistic literature than a divinely authored infalliable text.

Not a good topic though as there are some rather stubborn Xtians still hangin round here. Id better not go into the peculiar things they believe. lol. Theyre our buddies so gotta make a pardon on them

the impossibility of a Adam-Eve genetic bottleneck

Yeah, I’ve been hearing about that too! With what we know about genetics today, you just can’t possibly claim that the ‘Adam-n-Eve’ story is true and still expect to be taken seriously. You’d really have to be a profoundly hard core Theist to still buy the ‘Adam-n-Eve’ story literally…

I’m not trying to stir up shhit. It’s a very touchy subject I know.

I just can’t wrap my head around how people can still believe much of this stuff. But I also find it very interesting that many Theists are now no longer believing all of the bible stories literally. How do they decide what or what not to believe?

If we now have so many Christians saying that these stories are only myths, allegories or metaphors, what’s stopping them from taking that one last little baby step and just acknowledging that it’s all total nonsense???

There are people who think the Firmament Theory is true. Shoot, people think Earth is flat. Monk thinks humans arent Apes. We’ve got young Earthers and Transubstantiationists.

I dont worry about Christian stuff. Whether its true or not, stopped being a matter for me. I worry about Islime. That sh!t really is a problem. They need to axe that sh!t Im telling you.

You see what they did just this week. Blowing people up, seizing sovereign trade ships. Unacceptable bullsh!t. Damn muslime vermin

I am getting the impression that many, if not most, Christians do not believe everything that their bible says. Christians, it seems, get to pick-n-choose what to believe and/or what not to believe as it suits them.

Muslims OTOH are told that they MUST believe (literally) absolutely everything that their religion teaches them. That worries me too… 🙁

Because of the anthropomorphic nature of their faith. Its a catch 22. We lens everything through human subjectivity. The human benchmark contaminates all our thinking. True objectivity is rare.

“He” “creates” “judges” “saves” “punishes” and “loves.” Its inconceivable to them that something came from nothing. But that is precisely what happened, which is proven with facts. But facts dont matter to the subjective. Its all subconscious fear and vanity to believe you can survive death.

Only what can happen, does happen. And it happened. It never needed metaphysical help because metaphysics is imaginary.

Id trade an eternity in heaven, to spend one day on Earth a few million years from now, to see the descendants of homo Sapien (which really wasnt that Sapient at all lol). We are very much still like homo Ergaster hammering rocks and throwing spears at rabbits. But to see where it all ends up would be quite a treat. I think THEY will be the ones to build the Gen Ships. Our species wasted too much time and fossil fuels lilygagging around and will probably get zonked back unto the stoneage by a two mile wide asteroid.

I’d like to hear their thoughts. I am sincerely and honestly curious. Do they really (still) believe in stories like ‘Noah’s Ark’, ‘Jonah and the whale’ and/or ‘Adam-n-Eve’ and take then literally?

How do they reconcile what we now know about evolution, genetics and the age of the earth with what their bible teaches?

When I listen to guys like Ken Ham and it makes my brain bleed… 🙁

I think that it’s more or less a “menu” type belief system for MOST.

WHY do people CHOOSE to Complicate and Frustrate their own lives??

But why would some people believe in the virgin birth but not in ‘Jonah and the whale’? Why would some people believe in the resurrection but not believe in ‘Adam-n-Eve’?

The plausibility for all of these types of stories is identical…

Ken Ham’s is out there for sure. I gave up when William Lane Craig’s particular brand of crazy kept luring the netherApes (Stardusks word for idiots).

At least Craig admitted Evolution was true, he just conveniently said it was God’s plan all along! See? They never run out of funny string. You cant beat Faith, its resilient; Facts roll off its back like rain on a duck.

Bill Nye is a sell out. Somebody bought him out to push the Green Meme Lie. He accepted because its cash and because he thinks the end justifies the means. I can never ever forgive him for that.

I admit that mankind’s waste is profuse and we pollute and poison our natural habitat. We’re disorganized and extremely poor stewards of this world. But Climate Change is a fvcking lie to gain political and economic power, period. The data is cooked up by crooked Leftwing Academies.

The Earth is not in a tail spin at all. Shes in her prime. The sorts of claims that Green Gangsters make are so disingenuous of Natural History that its criminal. They make bald faced lies about a 4 billion year old Earth Story. They reinvent their LIE every 5 or 10 years to make it more extreme, sort of like the Left in general!

In reaction to Mary’s miraculous conception.

“Whats more plausible? That the laws of the universe were suspended, or that a Jewish Minx should tell a lie?” -Christopher Hitchens!

Never been a more witty son of a bitch than Hitchens. Anyone who doesnt think so hasnt read his books or watched him speak. The guy was an intellectual GIANT. I dont agree to every dot and tiddle of Hitchens but I acknowledge his superiority.

What’s even worse is we have ones who say we lived side by side with Dinosaurs. I would just love to see mankind go back in time with primitive tools and see if they can last a day against the massive juggernauts who can eat an entire village and still not be full.

But how do Christian Theists reconcile in their own minds

    They don’t.

To be honest, most theists, of any stripe, are more interested in using religion to tell other people how to live than applying it to their own lives.

That being said, any theist (or atheist for that matter) who think the bible should be interpreted literally is entirely missing the point.

It just phucks me up knowing that there are today grown, educated and mature adults that absolutely believe stories that just couldn’t possibly be true…

Educated is not the same thing as intelligent, and physically mature is not the same thing as mental maturity.

For examples, just look at all the highly educated women out there with advanced degrees in women’s studies who believe in that ridiculous “patriarchy” bullshit.

why are we not killing Iranians right now for seizing that British vessel?

Because it’s a British vessel. And the British are probably wisely discussing exactly that with the Israelis. Regardless of anyones opinion of the jews, they are very good at fucking up muslim bullshittery when sufficiently provoked (or paid).

    congrats on Boris Johnson.

I’m withholding congratuations until the U.K is finally, actually out of the E.U. with no shitty “deal” and no ridiculous “exit fee” payments to Brussels.

The Iranians (almost) have nukes don’t they???

All the more reason to let the Israelis deal with it.

the Bible is more of a historical work of artistic literature

The Song of Solomon is pure porno. Insane, awkward, hilarious porno, but still porno.

    That video.

People who don’t understand spermatogenesis should not upload videos on speculative genetics to youtube.

    it’s all total nonsense

But it’s not all nonsense. It’s just not history, archeology, science, etc.

It’s an ethical roadmap. It’s an etiology.

In other words, just because the authors of the bible were scientifically, historically, geographically, and otherwise very very ignorant does not mean they were stupid. Some of them, or at least the Babylonians they copied from, were very wise fuckers indeed. For example:

Do not give your strength to women
    – – Proverbs 31:3

Say what you like about the historicity of the bible, you simply can’t argue with those particular words of wisdom.

Christians, it seems, get to pick-n-choose what to believe and/or what not to believe as it suits them.

It’s the same with socialists. They get to pick all the good stuff, like unlimited free shit for all, but ignore the bad stuff, like the inevitable famines and genocides. At least they get to up until socialism actually gets implemented, that is.

Id trade an eternity in heaven, to spend one day on Earth a few million years from now, to see the descendants of homo Sapien

You’re assuming there will actually be any. Remember, “the future is female”. Which means the future isn’t.

    That video.

    Ken Ham is an idiot.

But Bill Nye the Social Justice Guy is also an idiot.

The plausibility for all of these types of stories is identical…

Naw. There are specific reasons and evidence why Jonah and Adam ‘n Eve are impossible. Meanwhile, with careful spermjacking, a virgin birth is very possible. Which kind of hilights what a cuck chump Joseph was. And “resurrections” do occasionally happen, especially with primitive medicine incapable of identifying death with 100% accuracy. Most crucifixions take days and days to die. Even the bible itself admits Jesus “died” suspiciously quickly.

I admit that mankind’s waste is profuse and we pollute and poison our natural habitat.

    Naw. We just overpopulate.

But then whose fault is that? Who has all the birth control options to decline? Who has the “right to choose”?

    It ain’t men.

What’s even worse is we have ones who say we lived side by side with Dinosaurs.

Technically they’re correct, though not in the way they think. Spoiler: Birds are dinosaurs.

I would just love to see mankind go back in time with primitive tools and see if they can last a day against the massive juggernauts who can eat an entire village and still not be full.

Don’t sell Men short like that. Even with primitive tools Men managed to clusterfuck giant tortoises, ground sloths, sabertooth cats, giant short face bears, giant cave bears with regular faces, columbia mammoths, steppe mammoths, woolly mammoths, woolly rhinos, elephant birds, cave lions, diprotodonts (giant wombats), giant kangaroos, giant monitor lizards, and a fuckload other badass animals, often with “giant”, “woolly”, or “cave” in their names.

Note that I said Men. Women, without Men to fuck predators up for them, are essentially cat food the moment they wander away from the protection of the huts.
