    Hi all,

    I’ve noticed recently that a large amount of my posts and replies don’t appear on the forum, unless I’m signed in.

    This can sometimes create confusing threads, whereby a member may reply to one of my comments, but without my original showing, it doesn’t make any sense.

    Yours respectfully,

    Mr Dead Inside 😉

    P.S. Just checked and strangely, this post isn’t one of them. 🙂

    That’s correct! It’s a good & common question , and it’s supposed to work that way.

    To clarify . . . .

    MEMBER = logged in.
    VISITOR = NOT logged in.

    For visitors, we serve up cached pages for speed.
    Only logged in members see the very latest / freshest posts immediately.

    When you’re logged out, a hit to a page creates a second “static” version stored in memory in that moment. The next visitor to that page sees that static page snapshot as it was last taken. This serves it up in a fraction of a second without demand on the database.

    These cached pages are cleared every 60-90 minutes, and are recreated on the next visit.

    Every time a (logged in) MEMBER views a page, it displays the very latest/ freshest posts, but if we turn caching off for visitors, the site will slow down a lot.

    So if you make a post, log out, and don’t see it right away, it’s there for members… but it can take anywhere from 1 second – 90 minutes to show up for visitors depending on when the cache will be cleared again.

    If you keep doing what you've always done... you're gonna keep getting what you always got.

    Thanks Keymaster,

    Yep, makes sense now. I suppose I’ve spent so long in a controlling, depressing and paranoia inducing environment (my marriage), I was worried even this ‘Men Only’ forum didn’t trust me, and that I was in a moderation que or something. 🙁

    Many apologies,

    Mr Damaged Goods

    Thanks

    Pleasure and thanks for asking. ( No apolz required ).

    Many members have asked why they make a post, log out, get an email someone replied and when they click the link in the email , the reply does’t seem to be visible. It’s not a moderation thing at all.

    It also has the added benefit of allowing us to publish something new and preview it in context, and when it’s RIGHT, we clear the cache manually so now it’s “LIVE” for everyone.

    As well… since there is a least SOMEWHAT of a delay, serious troll / infiltrator posts & threads can be removed and/or replied to by members before they even “officially” existed at all.

    … AND it’s really good protection in case something goes mini-viral or it gets a lot of hits suddenly.

    So if you log out right now you may not see my reply.
    But if you check it again in 1-90 minutes, it will be visible to everyone.

    Invisible Posts?

    That’s worse than trees jumping out in front of you, wouldn’t want to hit an invisible post! I wanna see it coming!

    Phewf, thank you! I thought my account had a problem or something, but it’s alright.
