I know this is a murky water subject, and are long shots, but I am curious if anyone here has any experience in investing in start ups.

I read an article recently in which someone invested $25k into Uber and his investment resulted into a $110 Million holding.

Specifically Im wondering if anyone has any experience in researching investments like this and how they have gone about it?

I know this is a shot in the dark, but Id trust guys on this forum over other media sources. Anyone have any input/experience?

I recommend doing lots of research before throwing your money down. A web search on “venture capital group” got a huge number of hits. It should be as good a place to begin as any.

i have not invested in any start-ups, but i would love to meet up with some like-minded people who are interested in creating a start up bizo!

Remember though, for every Uber there are another 100 companies where you would have lost your money. Investing in startups of that nature should only be done with money you can afford to lose.

Startups are extremely high-risk investments. They might pay off big, but most likely they will go bust. Therefore you should only invest in one if you can afford to lose your stake. If you already have a well diversified investment strategy, adding a small portion (a percent or two) at the extreme high-risk end of things is a sound idea. If you only have $20k total to invest, better to take it to Las Vegas than put it in a startup.
