I visited Nordstrom the other day. Department stores, or any clothing store for that matter, amuse me greatly because of the degree to which their target market is obviously women. Womens’ clothing is always prominently displayed front and center, and in many cases the mens’ department is way in the back, if there is a mens’ department at all. I remember entering an upscale family clothing store once and asking where the mens’ clothing was, and got a confused, almost vexed response from the female clerk. Do men actually buy clothing? Some of these stores would make you think they did not. I observed the same today at Macy’s. It occurred to me that the reason is that women, being poor judges of value [i.e. trading Superman for Chad] and emotionally driven like children [essentially walking vaginas that follow their tingles, with no function OR INTERESTS besides birthing kids, eating and excreting] are easy targets, and tend to blow money as if they never had to work for it. For these reasons women run the retail economy, while men–who generate wealth–are more scrupulous. But I digress.
So I walk into Nordstrom. Instantly I was surrounded by women of a similar type who were older middle aged with lots of makeup and a crazed look in their eyes. I mean next-level crazy, like someone who just got out of bed and isn’t quite in touch with reality yet. But here they were, walking around in the store, and assumedly had somehow driven themselves here. I located the returns line, and when I got there I couldn’t tell where the line ended––not because I’ve never stood in a line before, but because the second or third woman in line was standing so far out of line and facing towards it, that she created the appearance that the line curved and ended with her. However, there was a group of shy women maybe eight feet away just standing there, who had not stepped forward to claim their place, which made themselves look like they might have been just standing around looking at the ceiling (which they were actually doing). I approached the conglomeration and addressed the group as a whole, asking where the line ended, and took my place in it.
A raspy voice at the front of the line was not quite yelling at the returns girl. This customer sounded (and looked) like a husky little ogre. By the volume of her voice and her clueless, somewhat rolling head, it seemed that the outside world itself didn’t quite fit her, and I wondered if she spent a lot of time at return desks as a metaphor for her existence. Once I got to the front, the forty year old black woman who rang me up was very professional. But when I turned away I met the eyes of yet another driftless woman, with the skin of a dragon; I don’t know if it was the facelift or the layers of makeup, but it didn’t hide the crazed look in her eye that told me she was one of the eloi. I was actually frightened. Were these truly the zombies of makeup salespeople from ages past come back for an end of season sale? No in fact, I reminded myself these are the wives and ex-wives of the rich Jewish suburban folks in the area. Is this the best they can do? When I was younger I knew they were eccentric, but I didn’t know it was this bad. “Dragon.” The word came to me as this one passed by, a couple of heads shorter than me in diamond earrings and a face melted like a box of crayola crayons.

I dont shop department stores anymore. I cant subject myself to this kind of crap, life is too short to blow on that.
I go to kohls to return amazon packages, thats it.Women want everything, but want responsibility and accountability for nothing.
The local upscale store(Dillards) is the same way except make-up is at the entrance then women’s clothing. Off to the side or upstairs in men’s.
Like Agent I no longer shop at that kind of place. Tractor Supply, Bass pro shop, some times on line.mgtow is its own worst enemy- https://www.campusreform.org/

I get my jeans at farm and fleet. but they last me so long it really doesnt happen i need new ones for many years. most of my clothing lasts me a lomg time. thankfully it cuts down on shopping. i get a lot of shirts i like, denim shirts and some nice short sleeve shirts without any logos or crap on them thru ebay.

Thanks for the great story, Stealth.
I rarely shop in these stores. I go to the army surplus store for work clothes, which last very long, then Walmart for undies. I now admire Walmart for selling A LOT of locally or nationally made articles. Anything wool is purchased here and there, it lasts long too so I don’t need to worry too much about the frightening experience shopping usually turns out to be.
But anyway, I don’t like hanging out in stores, it’s really creepy.
I like going to Nordstroms. I love the eatery they have! Soup always tastes great! And the best coffee I get from there on the shop outside.
I may be the few that drive that far just to get a cup of coffee.
See, I enjoy the shopping experience that I get at Better places that cater to men and understand that we are a PRIME reason why the stores stay open.
In fact, when it comes to clothing or coats for my son, I only buy the best I can. My son still loves his jacket I mailed to him years ago. He needs a new one soon. But I have not been able to get the same kind of quality that I have before.
I really miss the Old guys that were at the Old Meir and Frank here in PDX. It was just so.. Well.. Masculine! I would buy my ties about every month just so I could have them do the double Windsor for me. Always tipped the staff as well.
I like the treatment I got from the better stores. And I liked having staff that really knew what they were doing. You came out always looking sharp.
What I really miss is the spirit of the place. Womens stores were VERY avant garde at one time. No longer. The class behind being a women has vanished. I miss the days when Wealth was celebrated and class was the leader of the day.
I liked that we had our OWN place. Our OWN part of the store. And it was All man talk. All lost in today’s generation.
Stores were almost History museums. Remember that? They had Old cars. Old things. They had that kind of Ralph Lauren esque to them. It was just magnificent.
I’m telling ya, the best thing about Maceys today is the Clearance isle. Like it or not, when women started accepting feminism, they killed retail.
I can’t tell you how much I miss the high class aspect of shopping. It really did feel good to get such good items back in the day. And the Service was just outright amazing! It was not about the sale so much as Brands making themselves known. And people use to Value the quality of things.
I was watching the Mannequin movie, and looked at the store, and almost felt like I was at home back in the 90’s. The store was so much more a place you WANTED to spend money in.
There was a post the other day about the Peak of Human civilization. Whatever it was, it is LONG past now.
Take a look at how Ohio did it!

Besides shoes, underwear and socks I buy all of my clothes at second hand stores.
Let the sheeple pay top dollar for new stuff and I’ll gladly pay 5-10% of what they did for the same articles of gently used clothing a few months or years later.

Incredible post Stealth.
I was about to write a post describing how people of this world look when I go out, and you beat me to it. Your writing is so vivid and the picture you paint brings me right there.
Nordstrom used to carry such good stuff – Leather, wool, the guy in the tuxedo playing the grand piano… The last time to went to Nordstom I asked for a leather belt, and the sales-gimp, who looked like a homeless man, brought me to a table full of polyester belts. He didn’t know polyester from poly-fvck-all.
No leather. Haven’t been to a Nordstrom since.

I have been trying to find just the right description to describe the women who started the Meetoo movement. You did it. I mean… you hit the nail on the fvcking HEAD!

Beaten down older Blue Pillers let their wives choose on their behalf. I often see hipster manginas being told what to buy by their feminist-huge-glasses girlfriend.
So much of the clothing is now unisex anyway.

Damn.. That’s weird. Even the Nordstroms outlet stores carry good stuff. I bought my shoes there often for a wonderful deal.
I do miss the Piano however.

Some of the charity shops in richer parts of England stock nice shirts etc. I make my clothes last. Tend to now only buy t shirts of bands from gigs. The local gentleman’s outfitters went bust where I’ve had good leather jackets etc. The blue pillers definitely obsessed with clothes and the same has happened with clothes stores here. It’s women who waste money on outfits

Thrift stores are often the way to go. I’ve found brooks brothers shirts almost free which should last my lifetime.
Whar department stores look like in Paris
I have been to that place. There is an entire floor devoted to lingerie. I kid you not, in the back corner was a dark room decorated lavishly as you described how stores used to be, and the female clerks were walking around in lingerie. The more attractive girl caught me staring at her and came over and asked me if I saw something I liked. I sort of looked at the floor and said no thank you but had my wife not been with me I might have at least made pleasant conversation with her, and then left. I remember one lingerie item on the wall that was really just a piece of string. We asked how much, and it was like seven thousand dollars…That’s when we slowly backed out of the room and realized we had wandered as tourists into the designer showroom in Paris…

Now that you mention that, I now remember this when Nordstrom first opened. In fact I was one of those guys who performed there once in the mid 90’s. That impression of Nordstrom’s is still in my head, even though they’ve done away with it and are now just a department store.

Ok, another story about the rich bitches that shop at Nordstrom.
This from a reliable source who used to work there.
One day a woman came in to let the management know that after buying some kind of expensive clothing there, she broke out with a skin rash that would not go away.
Went to the doctor and was informed she had contracted a skin disease that could only be gotten by contact with dead people.
Apparently someone had purchased a high end nordstrom suit or dress for use on a corpse at a funeral, then stripped it to return before burial."Once you’ve taken care of the basics, there’s very little in this world for which your life is worth deferring." -David Hansson. Hahaha, you could’ve said: “Yes, I see something I like, but it’s probably not for sale.”
Then MAYBE she would’ve told you her price and made a “deal”.
Anyway, it’s fun to imagine. lol

Maybe it came with the lingerie girl?
You all are right about thrift stores. Goodwill is the place to shop, especially in the urban parts of town. People drop off $3,000 jackets there that they sell to you for 8 bucks. No wonder they have to hire retarded people to work there, or else the employees would skim the good merchandise and run some type of underground ring.
