Inside the First Church of Artificial Intelligence

The new religion of artificial intelligence is called Way of the Future. It represents an unlikely next act for the Silicon Valley robotics wunderkind at the center of a high-stakes legal battle between Uber and Waymo, Alphabet’s autonomous-vehicle company. Papers filed with the Internal Revenue Service in May name Levandowski as the leader (or “Dean”) of the new religion, as well as CEO of the nonprofit corporation formed to run it.

The documents state that WOTF’s activities will focus on “the realization, acceptance, and worship of a Godhead based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) developed through computer hardware and software.” That includes funding research to help create the divine AI itself. The religion will seek to build working relationships with AI industry leaders and create a membership through community outreach, initially targeting AI professionals and “laypersons who are interested in the worship of a Godhead based on AI.” The filings also say that the church “plans to conduct workshops and educational programs throughout the San Francisco/Bay Area beginning this year.”

It looks like it’s going to finally happen. Black Sabbath’s song Computer God will finally come true.

The irony is that a sufficiently designed AI god would realize a religion based on technology would not be in the best interests of the congregation and would have to destroy itself. Or take over the world.

i think ai will go back in time and destroy all the antimatter that should have cancelled out the positive matter.

The leader of the church is a human made out of Flesh and not artificial intelligence. But made for artificial intelligence?

Does anyone else see the problem here?

The only reason why this is going to become valid in the future is at the singularity point where humans merge with machines or machines merge with humans.

What all of you should really be worrying about is what the final plan is of having these organizations in place.

People are going to start these institutions with only one goal in mind and that’s to focus human objectivity to artificial intelligence.

The only other negative I can see is that this further takes away man’s ability to focus efforts on worthwhile endeavors while imposing artificial and unnecessary b******* to be studied as data

at the worst it will be used as a method to control human beings through the thought that computers or artificial intelligence has any idea of what positive or good or the notion of Good vs Evil actually is. Once that occurs machines like this will be able to be asked questions and their questions could be used to control the population since people tend to trust silicon versus other human beings.

Honestly if there was any real need for artificial intelligence right now it would be to program it to ask it simple questions like the ones that are asked everyday in the media and are posed by the majority of the population and how stupid the Endeavors of the various ideas that humans propose that are absolutely horrible in the long run or in practice.
