Anonymous25“A return to first principles in a republic is sometimes caused by the simple virtues of one man. His good example has such an influence that the good men strive to imitate him, and the wicked are ashamed to lead a life so contrary to his example.” – Niccolo Machiavelli
This is how Ghandi achieved great change. We can learn from his example and lead by example.
Agree whole heartedly…but in a culture driven by the cult of personality, this one man would also need an equal measure of charisma to accompany great integrity. The two are seldom seen in one person these days….and that’s a damn shame…or conspiracy…just a thought.
HISTORY...learn from it, memorize it, DON'T repeat it...I knew a charismatic man of integrity, but he lacked any desire to be famous. He detested the very idea of fame.
I was bound to be misunderstood, and I laugh at those who misunderstand me. Kind mockery at the well intentioned, but unfettered cruelty towards those would be prison guards of my creative possibilities. This so as to learn as much from misunderstanding as from understanding. Taking pleasure in worthy opponents and making language fluid and flowing like a river yet pointed and precise as a dagger. Contradicts the socialistic purpose of language and makes for a wonderful linguistic dance, A verbal martial art with constant parries that hone the weapon that is the two edged sword of my mouth.
Anonymous2I concur, this should be on the Quotes page.
Perhaps we seldom see both qualities in men because the world is irrevocably corrupt, and propagation of anything with staying power is in the hands of famous people (media), dangerous people (terrorists) and powerfull people (politicians). Politicians create terrorists to influence the media into voting for politicians. It’s hard for anyone outside those cirlces to lead by example, as global exposure is a privilige of the rich and famous.

This is absolutely true, I just wonder if it’s possible that the internet can change it to level the playing field a little?
Maybe someone with the requisite characteristics from outside these mainstream circles can use the internet to garner real world support?
The harder the fight the sweeter the victory
Unfortunately these days it’s a simple matter for the government media complex to successfully fake simple virtues in one utterly corrupt man.
