I’m sick of Windows. Ever since Microsoft launched Windows 10, they nag you to upgrade to Windows 10. And even if you do remove that adware popup from your system on Windows 7/8.1, they still force that damn update on you eventually.

I’ve been using Windows 10 with classic shell for the past few months. It’s laggy as s~~~. Whenever I use Chrome it seems to speed up web browsing, but whenever I use Firefox it just lags like crazy and ends up crashing every now and then.

I also figured as far as gaming is concerned, I’ll just use Wine/PlayOnLinux if I ever want to play a Windows based game. And if it doesn’t work, I’ll just dump the game. Gaming isn’t worth it if you have to play your games on a completely s~~~ty system.

I love Windows. But, I hate Microsoft’s current state and they’re just making their products even s~~~tier to the point to where they’re unusable.

In Windows 10, you are the product. The reason why it is so laggy is Windows 10 is reporting everything you do to a central database.

Don't stick your dick into anyone you aren't willing to put up with for eighteen years and nine months.

I have a very slow laptop and it was running 8
I upgraded it to 10 and it started working a bit faster, surprisingly.
But yeah, it’s sad how much they surveil you in win 10 – it’s f~~~ing ridiculous
But the new generation doesn’t expect privacy anymore – so there you have it. They call us old-fashioned

proud carrier of the 'why?' chromosome

Definitely. Windows 10 spying is worse than Google’s. And at least Google’s products work most of the time.

InfernalShadow, please keep us posted on how your transition to Linux goes. I am not computer savvy and once, back in the 2000’s tried to install the kernal stuff on a panasonic toughbook. I failed miserably. I too am getting the “Hey stupid, haven’t you heard about windows 10? We worked so hard on it. You would be a moron not to let us install it on your computer for free. We only want track everything you type. C’mon guy … upgrade.”

I definitely will. I’m planning everything before I switch this weekend. Over Saturday or Sunday, I plan on making a full switch to Linux. I still haven’t decided on a distro or desktop environment yet however.

And yeah, that’s what I’m really starting to hate about Microsoft. They’re forcing Windows 10 on you no matter how much you modify Windows 7/8.1 to get rid of those ads. It’s getting annoying as f~~~ to deal with.

InfernalShadow, just call me BJS. It’s shorter, and I get the joke. I still deal with the popups because I don’t know enough about computers. I don’t play games, use firefox, and openoffice for all my office type stuff (mostly spreadsheets). Would this be possible on a linux system? Thanks man.

Linux is great. Windows is bloatware and spyware. Macs are not worth their premium price unless you think it’s worth paying double for the same hardware on the inside but with an innovative shiny case on the outside. Apple products are obviously designed to cater to women and manginas looking for fake status symbols.

Will do BJS. And that’s definitely possible on a Linux system. Linux Mint for instance, has a program in their system tray next to their clock that updates all of your programs and system in 1 click. You don’t even need to reinstall programs to update them.

I would however watch a few basic Youtube tutorials on how to use Linux GUI systems before making the switch if you’re unfamiliar with it. Even though I had a really in depth technical knowledge of computers the first time I tried Linux, there were quite a few small differences that threw me off the first few times I used it.

My “IT Guy” switched me to dual boot a few years ago.

Now, the only thing I use Windows 7 or 8 for is opening certain documents in Office. No updated, no internet at all.

It seems crazy, but I actually paid for Linux. By this, I had a pro install it along with Windows and to spend some time showing me how to use it.

For my work, especially when I have to be a “Road Warrior”, I need my notebooks to be reliable. I don’t need anything fancy, just the basics, but it has to work. For that, I am running on Mint with things being a little faster and far more reliable.

I was in a hurry, so I paid, but if you learn on your own, it is a great value since you can do it for free.

Also, a lot of big companies use Linux to drive a lot of things in the background. It’s funny when the IT staff at a company see that I am running Linux, a lot of surprise and compliments.

    @frank V.

I wish more people whether or not they ended up being an IT person used Linux. It’s far more reliable than Windows. Especially on laptops/notebooks.

I’m in the IT field, so I know a lot about Linux to begin with. I’m no Guru/expert, but I’m working towards becoming one.

And Linux is indeed a valuable skill to learn. Even if you’re just doing administrative work like spreadsheets.

My Windows 7 keeps popping up those stupid messages about Windows 10. I don’t want it. Although my Windows is just for games and Windows only applications these days.

It was funny in my college days in IT courses. I was one of the only people who used Linux. Alot of people considered it a nuisance and only wanted to use Windows. I even had an evil professor who despised my “UNIX”.

Some of the younger people did respond positively to it though – perhaps seeing the light.

I’ve been using Linux mint for about 18 months now. I tried Ubuntu, Debian and Mint and decided to stick with Mint. Safe to say, the GUI side of Linux has improved by leaps and bounds in the past decade and Linux is no longer the domain of the nerds.

My system runs so smooth and fast that i’ll never go back to use Windows again.

Thank you gentlemen for your input. Like I said, I’m not an IT fella. I just want my stuff to work, when I want it to work, how it is supposed to work. Spreadsheets for inventory, internet for communication. Pretty basic. Thanks again.

While I’ve been using Arch Linux for the better part of a year or two. Believe me, not being able to utilize the latest hardware can be a deal breaker for awhile. But that’s a rant for another time.

I hope that when you switch to Linux full time, You make sure that you are willing to fix problems when they arise. You won’t have anyone to blame when something goes wrong unlike in MS and Apple land.

In Windows 10, you are the product. The reason why it is so laggy is Windows 10 is reporting everything you do to a central database.

That is so true, it’s not even funny.

A pal of mine had his laptop speaker blow out when he decide to try out Windows 10 as a free upgrade. After hours of hunting down a pair of third party laptop speakers that can fit inside his Dell, he was able to repair his workstation.

He decided to switch to linux when Windows 7 extended support ends in 2020.

There are some benefit with macbooks.

If you want a paid unix-like system with a terminal, and like the unix way of things, then a mac isn’t too bad.

But like you said, it’s made for women and mangines as a shiny toy that will cook itself to death due to poor ventilation, or lack of to put it in another way, rather then it’s primary function as a computer.

Actions have consequences and consequences have prices. Cause and effect at work.
