Good for you, take the time that you need to determine what is next in your life, as well as what it is about gaming that fascinates you so much. If you can replace that with a non-gaming activity, awesome.
If you feel that dropping them helps, then do it! Just know you can moderate it too! No need to go cold turkey.
Use gaming as a reward and allow yourself x minutes for completing another task, etc. Plug your gaming console and attachments into a multi-plug outlet strip. Plug that into an electrical timer, the type that you would plug holiday ornaments into, after the time is up, that specific game session is over.
I also don’t believe in these calling all these “habits” “addictions”. My opinion.
I agree as well and once you identify why this habit is so appealing to you, you are in control, not the system. IMHO
"My father didn't tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it." - Clarence Buddinton Kelland
I applaud your decision to tqke control of the thing you feel has been controlling you.
Having said that, I have to ask why are you going to Japan?
Don’t get addicted to reading?
Maybe novels or comic books.
But a man can never read too much about history, economics and political philosophy.
The new world order would love it if people read less and spent all day on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.
I been addicted to games all my life. I know it’s time to quit. Deleted everything my friend changed passwords and account names for me. I feel a big relief now. These last three days since I been off work has made my mind clearer. Now I can use my time and money to plan my trip to Japan sooner.
Funny as right NOW…this VERY MOMENT…I was thinking of the EXACT SAME THING!!!!! In fact I was JUST starting to refurbish an old PC to be used as a work PC only and to power down my big gaming PC. I was playing GTA5 earlier today and just thought to myself…..what is the point to all of this? It is just a game to collect money and spend that virtual money on more guns which in turn will be used to blow more stuff up and get even more money…it never ends….why do players take part in online missions? To primarily get the virtual cash reward at the end, of course! The mission itself is something that players so desperately want to BEAT and get over with, so at the end of the day it is a vicious cycle of spending so much time to collect virtual money and spend it.
I even used a money hack/trainer for the story mode and ended up “giving myself” $1 Billion, which I “spent” on in game cars/planes/helis/property…..after going on a spending spree, the game became so boring. It really taught me a valuable lesson.
A tranquil mind is neither happy nor sad, it is uninfluenced by external conditions.

If you’re reading instead of taking care of basic chores and other everyday activities, you’re reading too much.
Believe me. I have been there.
Do not date. Do not impregnate. Do not co-habitate. Above all, do not marry. Reclaim and never again surrender your personal sovereignty.

Yeah, but a big part of the reward in video games is taking on the challenge that is thrown at you. For me, there is a sense of satisfaction that results from having built my character on World of Warcraft to the point where he is now. I feel the satisfaction when I see my character doing such high damage, or seeing my character take on entire hordes of enemies without taking a scratch.
Yes, I do realize that I could be getting that satisfaction by putting my time into other pursuits. However, the game itself is also what I enjoy. I’ve already got a good career, I’m already physically fit and healthy, so why not spend my free time doing something I enjoy?
It sounds like to me you’re just burned out on gaming and just need a break. Just take some time off and you’ll probably enjoy it again. But all the same, if you feel like it’s killing your goals in life, maybe you’re doing the right thing.

Yeah I looked at my hours playing csgo and was over 5000 hours. I cringe so bad right now what I could’ve done with that time.
THAT is where the shock sets in. When you can see a mathematical representation of the time/money you have spent on a task/hobby/addiction, it hits like a wall.
Having said that GE, i have a super gaming PC that I have been stuffing full of Steam games, etc that i almost never play. Its a back and forth ride, i get sick of having a +1000$ PC sitting around doing very little……sell it…..then 6 months later build a new one! But if you believe you can do better with your time, f~~~ yeah, go get em tiger! Im working on my productivity myself.
Neo: "Why do my eyes hurt?" Morpheus: "Because you have never used them before"
I still play video games but recently been into 3D modelings and making assets for game, which require reading and research.
i used to be a computer gamer, it got to be too expensive building a new gaming pc to keep up with my buddies.
I need to kill this addiction. It’s costing me money and a lot of time. I have books I’ve been needed to read but hadn’t. So many things I want to do but video games ruined my life. I can’t play a hour or two day. I tried and it always fails. That one hour turns into 12 hours. Its not going to be easy but I must do this to live a better life.
Working out is a better use of time. So instead of having gaming be your hobby, workout. You’ll not only be healthier, & be less stressed out, but you’ll gain respect from other people, & have the door opened to dating chicks if you want to. It’s best to focus on your future while you’re young. That time will get away from you.
Life's too short to spend with promiscious women. Enjoy your passions while you still can!!
Dude you could just play when you have free time. Everything in life is about discipline. The games aren’t what is preventing you from achieving success, it is YOU!
If you feel that dropping them helps, then do it! Just know you can moderate it too! No need to go cold turkey.
Just live a balanced life YOUR way, and success will come!
Exactly.
I played Age of Wonders 3 a lot, and now have not touched a game in a couple of months. At some point I will feel the urge to play it, or another game, and I will. But yeah, if it has taken over your life, and all you want to do, it might be best to quit completely for a while. Establish some healthy patterns for your life, and a framework for living in the real world, where you can then play when you want, and not have it take over again.
Don’t just swap internet surfing or TV watching for your gaming time either… Do constructive things.
Good luck OP.
Video games have a very special place in my heart. During college they’ve saved me from a couple of girls that were really bad for me.
I remember feeling miserable after breaking up with my ex, and some friends invited me to their group. We were online together almost every night, having tons of fun. It was then that I thought, holy f~~~, I like this more than being with those girls. Heck, I like it more than sex. I thought it was a silly or nerdy thing to say at the time, but now I understand it’s really true. Women bring so little to a man’s life, even a bunch of moving colored pixels on a screen is more exciting.
I think it is possible to play without ruining your life. As long as you keep it below 8 hours a week and you don’t sacrifice working out, sleep, healthy eating and so on it’s fine. But I see why some people might have problems with them.
I agree with what others have said. Even if you got rid of them, you must be careful, you might not have got rid of the underlying problem. Stay away from alcohol, drugs and the like. Including women 😉
A man shouldn't make his life's objective to be on the side of the majority, but to avoid finding himself in the ranks of the insane. (Marcus Aurelius)
Anonymous3Do whatever is best for you. Although you need to get to a level where you don’t need to announce things and seek approval/input but rather just do things for yourself. You’re probably a young guy, and you’re part of the ME generation that needs that attention, but that’s probably the most important addiction you can break, and one which women can never break but men can. You don’t need the attention, you just need to do what’s best for you and get to where you’re trying to go.

Plus… games have been going to s~~~ now that SJW have been trying to tank them.
I often hear people say “video games are a waste of time!”. Eh, no. If you’re doing exactly what you want to be doing, it’s not a waste of time.
I have a PC that can handle playing video games, but so few that I actually like are ever released. I can’t stand sci-fi/fantasy based games. I prefer s~~~ like Hitman, Batman, GTA, Splinter Cell, and fighting games.
So, it’s just a handful for me. Not much time put toward gaming overall.
Aunt Esther: Fred, I'll have you know this body was blessed by Mother Nature!! Fred: Well, too bad your face was cursed by Father Time!
^ Yes, they are only a waste of time if you need to be putting it into other things. If you’re 25, have no job and are living with your parents, you probably shouldn’t be playing video games. If you are 50 pounds overweight, or even underweight, you probably need to cut back on video games and spend more time making healthy meals for yourself and going to the gym. Other than that, there’s no reason why anyone who takes care of themselves shouldn’t be allowed to do what they enjoy. For some reason, American society still believes that all gamers are losers. I say pay no attention to them.

Objection!!! I go to gym first before dinner then play almost all night. So you can still do both.
Of course you can. I never said you couldn’t. =)

To meet some friends that left USA to go live in Japan and also to visit Tokyo some things I want to buy are only in Japan.
