That is pretty much the philosophy I’ve taken in restoring this old house. I’m doing it MY way and having a great time doing it. I remodeled the master bathroom and installed a ventilation fan over the toilet that simultaneously turns on a bright red rotating red police light. The stall has a heavy duty handle on either side I jokingly tell people is for “Power Squeez’in”. To say I’m going for the Industrial Look would be an understatement.

I’m a former Marine, I was in for seven years right out of high school, enlisted ranks, Vietnam vet (non-combat). After that, college, two marriages, two divorces, retired after a civilian career as a bureaucrat.

Spent a couple years at Lejeune while in the USMC, then later 25 or 30 years in DC. Did some vacationing around the Smokies and Gatlinburg, Tennesse, that sort of thing. I’m sure I passed through or near Mt. Airy. Pretty area. Myself, I’m up in the boondocks of northern Vermont.

my step mother was a marine brat , she was a pill popping box wine drinking psychotic Bitch with tendencies of grandeur in making my 12-14-year-old life with her an absolute hell on Earth . but my father always had it out for the redheads (UGH) . She having three girls of her own in this union , let me just say anything that went wrong in the household , was the fault of me. 3 step sisters older than me and a bitch on a magic carpet for a stepmother, oh no . the girls all had rooms, I had a room converted from a 2 car garage, no heat in the winter, and no A/c in the summer. and things don’t get better, they get worse.smelling of gasoline from the car parked next to me was always there, did it affect me? I’m sure it did I look back on it now as the culminating factor I had for the just how much a female can be a true BITCH. I am rambling on now . please forgive me. glad you here.

Great post. I can totally identify with your decision regarding the assets in the divorce. I gave my wife more than a judge would have given her, given our marriage of only 1 year, but it served a duel purpose: 1) Divorce at record breaking speed, like yours; 2) I look at her sort of like a disabled person because of her mental problems (or whatever the hell is going on in her head), and I want her and my former step kids to have every chance to live a healthy life. The idea of having freedom made it clear to me that I don’t need money to be happy, I need her far away. I hope she does get healthy and live a happy life – I know I’m planning to! I’m new here too. It’s a great place. Look forward to reading more of your posts.
