I though I’d share my only ongoing relations~~~ with a female.

She comes to visit me every year to lay eggs in the soft sandy backfill along my south facing basement wall, everything else is stony gravel glacial till.

When I first met her she hissed at me, that was about 15 years ago, since then I’ve given her safe passage and return trips to the stream on the coal shovel. I’ve found her upside down and exhausted one time and flipped her back over.

I’ve rescued her offspring from the now diseased Heckle and Jeckle, I missed the neighbors trashcan by only 2ft. after putting a round through his breast as he sunned himself on the powerline with the rising sun in his eyes (critical mistake).

Anyway, this turtle does recognize me now and no longer hisses or retreats into her shell.

These animals are aquatic lawnmowers and scavengers, they don’t hunt healthy fish, just up-side-downers and floaters! Too many people just kill them because they’re ugly and snap when feeling threatened, I won’t get close to her to prove any stupidity with wild animals.

I gather her offspring plucking them from the grass all the way to the stream where they’re heading, then I spread them throughout the watershed using a 5 gal. bucket to hold them. I release most of them in the lake where assholes wack them with their ores stunning then killing them thinking they’re doing a service.

Just a morning in the life of MG-Tower and something you don’t want to accidentally step on!

I guess we both have our shells and snap, perhaps that’s why I like her, birds of shell flock together….

By the looks of the fresh scratches on her shell she’s been doing some upside down workouts!

I estimate her weight to be 25 or 30 lbs. She’s grown only a little since I first saw her. They’re believed to live up to 200 years, this one is likely older than feminism.

It’s head is intact, look closely at the front shot, you can see her eyes and beak. The second picture she pulled her head in after the flash in her eyes from the first picture.

Those new Decon cubes suck! I just found some mouse droppings, the old granular worked! My friend tore apart a wall and found those blocks were dragged in by the mice and uneaten, they’re onto them, they SUCK! Waste of f~~~ing money! I just loaded some old fashioned traps with peanut butter not more than 10 minutes ago!

Update: Here she is two minutes ago laying her eggs, I won’t mow this area in fear of crushing the eggs, I’ll use a weed wacker and watch out for the hatching when they emerge.

She has no fear or regard for my presence, I know they have prehistoric nervous systems but now I’m convinced they have being recognition, meaning they can remember friendly faces as well as natural enemies.

I’ll give her another ride on the coal shovel when she’s done so she doesn’t have to topple over the walls…

This is nice, Tower. Turtles are neat. I had a huge aquarium years ago with two little red snappers inside. They had their pond and sand and all. These critters got attitude and I don’t blame them with their lifespan. They eat most veggies and as for fish, I seen them go after live ones with a vengeance, one fish even jumped out of the tank ha ha

Healthy live ones that “jumped” out the “tank”? Sounds about right, therefore my question is how about the sick ones that can’t “jump” out the “tank”? Great pictures Tower thanks for sharing them. I stopped and pulled about a 15 pounder off the highway in Illinois. Man was it p~~~ed. I had to throw a towel over it at first to be able to get it by the tail. Hissed and snapped the whole time. Oh well better than being a road pizza. I wonder how many hoes would take selfies and get their asses bit haha.
Observe how our buddy takes the pictures, nice and clear and detailed of the critter in her habitat. No stupid duck lips and peace signs and other dumb poses.

last update for the turtle saga.

She’s quite the little landwhale for the coal shovel so I used the dumper cart and rolled her crabby ass down to the water.

Heading back upstream to the several beaver dams she calls home. Conservationists installed some kind of migration trap at the mouth of her habitat (large marsh) I’ll check upstream later today and see if she’s caught in it. The trap may or may not be for some invasive species I’m unaware of.

I’ll add to this post if she becomes trapped. They have persistence so I think she’ll work her way around the steel mesh blocking the stream thereby blocking aquatic migration for something, perhaps Chinese snake head fish? Last I heard they were on a rampage along with zebra muscle’s (a species of freshwater scallops that can attach to objects and clog marine equipment with their shells, a real nuisance).
