I was going to go for cyber security decided not to. I love photos and always taking pictures. So I really like this path. Very happy. My dad paying for my school he wants me to get any degree just so he can brag to his friends about me so I took him up on his offer and don’t have to work. My dad and his girlfriends(yes girlfriends) make a lot so I just focus on school.

    It’s amazing. Taking photos.

I have a Mark II that doesn’t see daylight because of my other hobbies. But I plan to go on road trip in winter and bring it with me.

Editing wise I haven’t taken photography as seriously as I should. Without the editing skills a lot of talent fades in the background.

Good luck on your endeavor brother. Keep us posted. And hopefully some snaps.

Go to school for IT. Make six figures in wages and benefits forever.

Keep photography as a side line. Buy cool caneras and travel on IT wages.

    Do not f~~~ up.

I know three photographers…like starving artists.

Do not fall for the do what you like line. It is a trap. Make cash, have a great life.

That faulty logic was from the feminist liberals.

Thanks for the advice will look over my plans again.

I would counsel the same as Bunker.

I am a professional tog but only as a second/third job. I fly jets for my debts ?

It was photography that got me through flight school.

It has become cut throat and over saturated. EVERYONE, THEIR DOG & ITS FLEAS now have a camera that can for the most part do a good job.

As an example, I used to shoot music festivals. The pro stuff that would appear in mags and posters for the next years show.

Crowd shots were also big. Only good looking people, no cigarettes or alcohol in shot. No t~~~ or ass. Bright sunshine and event branding in background.

We worked like pigs for 3 days solid ….. without drugs … sleeping in the media tents.

The pay off was huge and very worth while.

However, that all dried up when everyone in the crowed had a camera. Ten thousand of them, all taking pics and uploading them to mags.

If they only took on good pic … that’s 10k …. free for the media.

    Work fell off sharpish.

Same with fashion, corporate and weddings.

Unless you’re something very special … you WILL struggle.

I now specialise in 3 areas. Wildlife, Dark and Aerial mapping.

The mission creep is financially ruinous. The quality now demanded has seen me go from a dslr and mac to gimbal stabilised rigs, drones and steadycam outfits. Nothing is less than $1500 … NOTHING.

My pc is in excess of $5k coz the stupid software wants 4gig graphics and other crap.

I’ve just had to buy a second $9k Canon lens for wildlife class students to practice with.

I can guarantee there are easier ways to earn money.

Every one says …. oooohh … all those models … and t~~~ and stuff. Especially my bloody brother …. until he spent the day with me at a studio glamour shoot.

He was asleep on a couch after 3 hours out of a 15 hour day.

If you do earn money … use it to get elsewhere …. there is no long term life from it.

It’s amazing how many times I say this … and how much I’m ignored …. but 5 years later the recipients of my wisdom are doing other things.

    Listen to Bunker.

That’s not a bad plan. Get a well paying day job (something that won’t corrode your soul) and do photography as an avocation that occasionally pays. I love taking pictures and have been since my preteen years. The towns near me all have well established pros who have the market for school graduations, weddings, etc, sewn up.

You might find this documentary of interest. That kid paid his way through college from his earnings as a paparazzi:

I tried to do this for a while, and then I saw that that only successful photographers were shooting weddings. Then I was like, I’m gonna GTFO now.
