I’m going to climb Mt Everest (no s~~~). I’m 30 retired at 27, How do I get started?. My mind is hell bent on doing this. I’m athletically in shape, I have the funds… Has anyone ever done this? How do I start?.. Yes I’m doing it

The question is…Why are you climbing Mt. Everest? Its a serious endeavor and could cost you your life but its not all its cracked up to be since a lot of people have done it…

Not that I am discouraging you, there is a question of why…It would be better if you are an experienced mountaineer but if not then it would be too dangerous. The reality of the situation is different from the pictures you can see about Mt. Everest…

I stand with feet apart and let my balls hang free...Manginas dont have balls...See how they stand and sit at the whim of their masters...

First step would be to see if you can handle altitude sickness. Go for a wander upto base camp and try snagging one of the smaller peaks. GL

I’m asking for help how to do this, not asking for judgment. Like, who do I call? where do I go? etc?

Problem with Everest is two pronged. Weather window can slam shut on a dash to the summit, leaving parties basically toast.

Altitude is the other one which will kill just as quickly as exposure dying on the side of the mountain.

There’s a whole lot more to it than just these factors, but either your body shuts down due to cold, or the weather makes getting off impossible. For some people the altitude is impossible to overcome, especially given we don’t train at those heights regularly.

Foul weather is anyones guess, but f~~~ dying for bragging rights, woudn’t impress me if you died up there or came back down with a story to tell. Just another cashed up somebody looking to put the twinkle back in their eye.

Honestly dude, there’s so many other cool parts of the world to explore, but if that’s your thing, have a crack why not. But do it for the right reasons, and train your ass off because death doesn’t discriminate.

My advice is make a 3 year plan. If you still want to do it in 3 years go for it!

In the mean time do a series of mountaineering expeditions that get you mentally and phyiscally prepared.

Too many people just going for the glory instafame look at me bulls~~~ these days (not trying to offend you here but let the passion drive you, see it as a challenge to build up to).

I have alot more respect for the guy who puts in the hard work to get the results, not just trying to fast track the experience, after all life is a journey not a destination.

I’ve done a metric s~~~ tonne of rock climbing, but never ventured into the mountaneering side. You need a good head in these environments, and a mature diciplined attitutde. Develop this first.

Thanks, but this is seriously a goal of mine, and I think I’m ready. I’ve trained hard, mentally and physically, but f~~~ I was told ” its either f~~~ yes” or ” hell no” ther’s no buffer between the two.

Big mountains are very cool. At your age I would look more into rock climbing as it will keep you busy week in week out and keep you phyched to train and explore the amazing wilderness ‘out there’.

With climbing you can get yourself to some remote areas that feel seldom visited, and there are still plenty of unclimbed mountains in the Himalayas if you have cash to burn.

Dude, I free climb. I’m getting nervous even talking about this. I know the dangers, but do you think I should practice more? or just go for it?

That’s awesome man! I’ve always been fascinated with Everest. There’s an absolute slew of good YouTube videos about Everest. For example, the finding of the remains of George Mallory missing for nearly 75 years. https://youtu.be/bRQvwAxjy1g

If you are really serious, look into a series of smaller expeditions first. You need to get yourself upto base camp and see what the fuss is all about.

Just say you tick off Everest, then what??

More to the point, imagine going to do Everest and everything goes wrong. How will you deal with defeat?

By preparing in smaller, more manageable mountain climbing missions, and suceeding one peak at a time, you will be slowly preparing to take on the big dog.

It ain’t no walk in the park, it’s a killer peak with no rescue available, knocking on heavens door so to speak.

    Bragging rights is secondary…

Primarily you cant do it alone. The costs would be prohibitive. There are “tour groups” that organize Everest climb. I think that would be your best bet to accomplish what you want…If you do it and live, tell us about it…Plus, I hope you dont lose your life or your appendages while climbing that mountain…

Don’t have any experience with climbing but hope you get to do it, maybe check out some mountaineers who have done it and get their advice. Perhaps do some other mountains besides Mt. Hood. I’m my experience building up to something is best.Dor example, I want to do cage diving with Great Whites so I’ve gone diving with other sharks including reef, tigers, and bulls before I do so. What you are planning is way more dangerous, so get experience but enjoy the process. Just my 2 cents.
