The trick:

They are called ‘iridium flares’. Iridium are a network of comms satellites that have large solar panals.

You can calculate the panel angle and sun/horizon.

This will give you a time, date and position in the sky where the satellite will ‘flare’

Or

You can download app for your phone and it will VR the location for you.

They are quite amazing to watch and will get you many free beers with friends bets.

Hey ILA, you can see all kinds of satellites shortly after dusk, they’re not “flaring” but standing in the dark while the sun’s rays are over you but at an angle that puts them in outer space, they look like stars moving across the sky then disappear into the earth’s shadow. with 300X zoom I’m almost sure you could identify it, or at least tell it is man made. I’ve seen my fare share of comets burn up living far away from the cities artificial dome of light.

I think it’s some sort of Earth controlled ship. There a semi-secret US Air force unmanned craft that stays up for many months. No one knows its mission or capabilities.

The propulsion system appears to be chemical in nature to me.

I did hear a SR71 contacting UK ATC after coming over the Atlantic.

ATC: USAF SR71 what’s your altitude?

SR71: Flight level 650 (65000ft)

ATC: SR71 repeat altitude.

SR71: FL650 … do you have any conflicting traffic?

Normal airlines fly from 18000 – 50000ft

The most efficient wing is very long and thin. If you could make a ships wing twice as long and half as thin, you’d get a fuel saving of 11 – 18% but also speed increase of around 5%.
