Think of it like this. Doctors are the closest thing to miracle workers that we have in our lives, because they actually save lives. The thing with Doctors, especially surgeons, is that they have to go to post secondary school for like 8 years, and then they have to do many years as a residency doctor after that. Even after all this, do you think your life is gonna get any easier?

The Widespread Problem of Doctor Burnout

According to the link I have at the top, it says that doctors can get burned out, so it shows that I do not think your life is gonna get any better in terms of relaxing downtime. Even though doctors have to pay off all the debt they have to pay for for all those years in university, at least they will make a lot of money to the point where they can actually choose to retire early if they do not have too much expensive tastes. But let’s compare this to a let’s say a electrical engineer. They work from 9 to 5, instead of the doctors many more hours, you start to work as soon as you get your bachelor’s degree and you would make a lot more money then many of the other bachelor degrees while doctors can only start making a lot of money many years later after their schooling/residency training. If you are an electrical engineer, you can also do a lot of hobby projects with the knowledge you gained like making your own robots in your basement of your nice house that you can afford. You can even give people a form of your service of your expertise that you gained off your engineering degree. For instance, I think that a electrical engineer is a glorified electrician which means that maybe you can do some electrical work for some people, as long as it is up to government code. As for doctors, maybe you can give people some medical advice but in the end, you are as good as your job. But if you are an electrical engineer, if you cannot get a job as an actual engineer, you can still be in technical sales. So in the end, what career advice would you give to a gifted student?

I think people join the medical profesion because they want to help people, it is a vocation and not just a job.

    That is true.
