I need to quit smoking.
I smoked my last one just now.
I figure if I tell you guys I’ll feel like a total mangina if I fail.

I can imagine that it’s hard for a person to just quit a habit. I’ve read about neurological pathways in the brain being strengthened by repetitive behavior. It’s pretty serious stuff. Whatever you need to do to quit: go for it. Maybe you can try some e-cigarettes as a segue to a more serious quitting program (created by medical professionals). Best wishes to you, Jan.

Yea, Funinthesun has a good idea. From your advice to me in the past, figure you’ve been around a while…thanks. So, figure you’ve been smoking a while. I did that vape stuff, takes the edge off.

Quitting sometimes takes practice, and practice makes perfect! Never quit trying to quit, it’s only about 4 days before the nicotine stops gnawing on your nerves. Wake up and tell yourself you only have to make it to bedtime then wake up in the morning and repeat the cycle.
I don’t miss those f~~~ing things one bit!

Slowly lower the nicotine level. .
Or just tough it out. .
I know guys that stopped cold turkey and 72 hrs later, the poison is out of the system.

I once cut a drinking straw in half and used it like a cigarette. .works well. .

Ask your doctor about wellbutrin.. or something like that to help.
Anonymous54Dont be too hard on youreself. Most fooks ,me included,take 3or4 attemts at it. The chewing on a straw thing is a good idea. I found the strggle was realy about my hands not haveing any thing to do.What eventually worked for me was ,instead of seeing my self as a smoker trying to quit,i saw my self as a non smoker.
I like the idea of economic penalty Stealthy. I once wondered if a lottery system could be set up for smokers to quit. Best of luck Jan! I will also be trying to give up this f~~~ing stupid habit (I picked it up at 26), within the week. Any other tips for Jan and others trying to succeed in this endeavor will be greatly appreciated.
Smoking is like whimyn, except it has more health benefits. The sooner you quit, the better off you will be in every sense of the word.

I quit in october 2013, best feeling ever. The way your whole body just feels different day by day. You taste things better, you smell things better. Your whole body is in bliss due to increased levels of oxygen in your blood. You become calmer and sleep better because there’s no more nicotine stimulating your nervous system.
As soon as you give up smoking , start exercising. Exercising will release endorphins and it in time you will rewire your brain’s reward system.
The secret to giving up smoking is not willpower , but attitude.

I never got started. My dad had a system to get me to not do smoking and drinking and it worked. When I was 12, one Tuesday night, while he and I were throwing darts in the pool table room, he made me take an inhale on an old birth cigar he had laying around for many years. The intake on my throat and lungs was so extreme, I severely coughed and jugged down a gallon of water like it was running out. I learned that night to hate smoking, because of how awful it was. I never lifted a cigarette, cigar, a joint or a pipe since that night.
My dad did the same thing for me with alcohol; he made me taste test several types, which we still have after many years not used. The taste was so horrible, I was drooling it out and making sick faces. I said back then that this drinking and smoking stuff is not good. Although my dad did allow me to try beer when setting up the Christmas tree and last year I learned that the only beer I’ll drink is Coors Light, and I only drink a bottle each night between Friday and Sunday. I do like non-dry whines though. I see myself more into whines than hard liquor. I love fruit flavored (strawberry) whines, Riesling and sparkling whines. But I never drink them regularly; just 3 times a year and I NEVER drink them if I know I’ll be driving. I don’t want that drink to cost me $25,000 and 5 years in jail.
Speaking of whines, we have a whine tasting festival coming up in a few weeks (just after my 34th birthday which is on the 4th). It’s called the Festival Of The Vine.
