So I live and work in Kuwait. That will be coming to an end in December. A Kuwaiti I met here and I are considering a business venture. Just importing certain cars from North America to the Gulf region. I would work the NA side and my Kuwaiti friend works the Gulf.

We have found 2 cars to buy and import. The problem is the sellers won’t answer the phone, respond to my emails or return calls. I’m in Kuwait so I understand not returning my calls.
But maybe the problem isn’t just long distant charges and they’re not responding to my emails.

Any tips on how to leave effective messages to get people to call or contact me back? This was a problem during my accounting career as well so i must be doing something ineffectively.

Any tips, lines or phrases that work, let me know. Getting frustrated. When I return to NA, things will be easier, but I hope to get a few deals done while I’m here to see potential issues and make more contacts.

I bathe in the tears of single moms.

Are you calling individuals or dealers? Where are you sourcing your cars?

They most likely don’t want to deal with out of country buyers. You could try calling them through a local US phone number so they at least answer your call.

    Lingo:

    • “Good morning / afternoon / evening” instead of “hi”

    • “Certainly” instead of “sure”

    • “I’d be happy to” instead of “OK”

    • “My pleasure” , instead of “you’re welcome” or “no problem”
(implies no thanks was even required )

    • Use “Sir” (if it’s a man)

    • “How may I be of assistance to you?”

    • Always finish with a “thank you” even when you are providing something and/or someone is asking for something or drops a request on your desk.

    • You’re not “fine”, you’re “excellent, thanks”.

“Excellent” is always a better positive than everyone else gives. They’re Fine. OK. Could be better. Can’t complain. But you’re “Excellent, thanks!”. They will wonder what you know that they don’t.

Makes a huge difference, requires no real effort, and stands out from everyone else.

    Some extra thoughts . . .

I have found it necessary to put values forth – on the table – for a service person (or client) to know what I expect. You can be direct with this.

    For example:

When I call for customer service, I will tell THEM that “I am a customer, and this call will be monitored or recorded for quality assurance purposes”. It always gets a laugh. But, from the start they know I am not screwing around.

“Please let me know if you’re need to place me on hold and for how long”. You can also tell them if it’s going to be more than 3 minutes that you wish to know so you’re not left hanging.

    • Immediately ask for the best direct number to each them back right away if the call is dropped. Also offer to call them back if so.

    • “Please let me now how I may be of further assistance to you. Thank you.

“When can I expect to hear back from you?” is a good question to ask if you expect a call back. Don’t be shy about that, either.

If you keep doing what you've always done... you're gonna keep getting what you always got.

Wow! Do we think alike! People are more eager to meet you on personality alone!

I couldn’t give better advice! They’re people treat them like people!

I tried the same venture with a man in Ireland specifically for early Ford flat head V8 parts NOS and used. It fell through from lack of enthusiasm on his end.

Are you looking for classics or newer limited edition luxury and muscle cars? Car Dealers will sell your delinquent juvenile a car on credit if they could!

Private sales are way more touchy and moody. The slightest bit uncomfortable and they walk away from you and rather deal with someone else.

You’re not buying a car, you’re selling a friendship! People will even go out of their way and throw in extras if they like you. It’s their life, you’re the one intruding into it, you better be likable or you’ll find allot of closed doors.

People with those kind of cars usually aren’t motivated sellers, they just want the space in the garage for something new, not that want to sell the old, or need to sell it. It’s up to you to motivate the seller.

Buyers aren’t the only ones that need to be motivated, sellers too!

And smile when you first meet them face to face, no better ice breaker than a warm friendly smile!

    Good luck!

Private sellers so far. I’m willing to buy from dealers but they’re generally more expensive.

How can I call through a usa number? I call with skype and it probably shows as 1234567890 on call display. I’ve thought about that and that’s probably one reason nobody picks up.

Best part is, it easily elevates you with very little effort – and they don’t forget you – because most people don’t give a thought to these little details, and they make all the difference.

I hate it when I say “thank you” and someone says “uh-huh” or “no problem”.

( When was buying a coffee from you a “problem”? )
    It makes my skin crawl.

The best response to “thank you” is “my pleasure”. I have tested it. People do a double take , even for the most menial thing.

    @uchibenkei an afterthought.

    First rule of sales….

“If you give someone a chance to say “no”, they usually WILL”.

So eliminate question marks where an answer could be “no”.

    Example:

“Would you like to go for a test drive?

    v.s

“Let’s go for a test drive.”

If you keep doing what you've always done... you're gonna keep getting what you always got.

Do not come to Massachusetts! You will hate hate hate as your skin crawls off your body and slithers away, leaving you very raw and exposed!

I always make it a point to say “you’re welcome”.

I never answer a thank-you with anything impolite and muddled down the way they now just mumble.

It really tells me who’s f~~~ed in the head from all the pride and narcissistic conditioning spawned and spread by the all vile philosophy of feminism.

    Chivalry

    Courtesy

    Manners

A gone in the barren wastelands of feminism.

They truly behave obnoxiously, arrogantly, rude, and obtuse!

I want in on that? Really? What universe of stupidity do these animals live in?

I bet 3rd wave feminists don’t even know how to properly set a table! They only know hamburger, french fries, and all things f~~~ing lazy! They wouldn’t know a salad fork from a pickle fork!

I can’t even see a Massachusetts license plate without feeling that way. Tower excepted, of course. It used to be a great State many moons ago I hear.

People from New Jersey and New York, etc.. tend to blend in down here. They mostly come as refugees. Massachusetts folks are still rabid leftists.

Dude, I’d live in the woods there too. Of course, you’re not in Amherst.

I was glaring at some pink/blue haired fat female Massholes in traffic last week. I made them feel uncomfortable.

Must be nice to have that privilege! Two days ago I was stopped in traffic next to a flaming feminist that looked just like Bully Gene King but uglier! I wanted so bad to f~~~ with her cause she had her window down, you know, start talking s~~~ to be intentionally overheard but not direct.

SPEED DIAL 911 was all I had to think of and that temptation VANISHED!

Live and let assholes live is the best non static path through life! It’s just that there’s so f~~~ing many of them! I hate leaving my house!

F~~~ man! Yesterday two dog f~~~er rug munchers came by my house and tried to strike up a conversation! I looked right through them commanding my dogs to stay behind the fence, I was across the street and that went against their inherent pack animal grain.

I didn’t say a f~~~ing word to either blabber mouth rug munching dog f~~~ers!

    Yes:

“Please return my call or I will hunt you down and kill you”

You’ll get a response from someone.

You can probably buy from a wholesaler (dealer) much easier than trying to deal with individuals. They can buy cars for you directly from the auction and sell them to you while keeping a small profit.

Manheim and Adesa are the two biggest auction houses. You can find the cars on there and let them know how much you’re willing to pay. Their websites provide pictures, condition reports, etc. The key here will be to find a good, reputable wholesaler.

As for individuals, I think you’ll have a hard time given you’re overseas right now.

I’ll check them out. Thank you.

Right now there is only 1 kind of car within a certain age range that we are looking for. I don’t know how often they come up for auction. Regular people usually sell them for cheap. If I can get them at auction, I’ll do that.
