Hi heads-up.  I wasn’t trying to tread on your toes before, sorry if I came across that way.

To me, the typical ‘alpha male’ (be it the guy flashing cash, the muscle head, the thug, whatever) does what he does in pursuit of female attention.  So he’s defined by how successful he is in that endeavour.. thus he hands women control over his position in life.  My thinking is that a dominant personality, someone with strong leadership skills who, as you say, ‘commands respect’ without violence or belittling others – is something entirely separate from the alpha-beta paradigm.
