Earlier yesterday, I was watching a documentary Command and Control.
In 1980 a couple of maintenance workers dropped a 30 pound piece of iron. That pierced the oxygen tank of a titan 2 nuclear rocket.
During the narration of other potential nuclear misshaps. In the 1950’s a ’52 bommer flew apart’
Every human safety for that hydrogen bomb failed over southern california. Except a switch that looks like the modern day light switch.
The bomb fell from the correct height. The gravitational pressures activated every stage of Nuclear Armageddon. Yet a simple light switch configuration

A simple switch averted Armageddon.

Only God’s that smart.

OP. The book by the same name is even better. We almost lost Arkansas. It had a 10MT warhead.

Not Armageddon. California. Exactly what it seems to need today.

Anonymous42My father was in SAC (strategic air command)in the early 1950s’. They used to leave atomic bombs laying around for weeks at a time, he said one was at the end of a runway and a bad place to leave an atomic weapon in case of a crash! That was before missiles, when there was always a crate of eggs in the air at all times in the bellys of our B-36 fleet flying 24/7/365!
I wonder if they forgot about any misplaced atomic bombs at any of our closed bases? I wouldn’t doubt it!

“Give us this day, our daily bread…” This simple line in the prayer…To take care only of todays needs…We dont worry about yesterdays bread or tomorrows bread…Just todays bread…
In time, I too hope to be at peace with myself and be at peace with the craziness of the world…
I stand with feet apart and let my balls hang free...Manginas dont have balls...See how they stand and sit at the whim of their masters...

And, I’m guessing that if the Man Made Switch Failed then it would have been Gods Will ????????

If I were an omnipotent god I would have stopped the plane from “flying apart” in the first place. But hey, I’m sure that’s just me…

I think it’s hilarious that we almost nuked ourselves.

Next time we might not be so lucky. Incompetence has always been a problem, but thanks to Nuclear Technology it may put an end to all problems PERMANENTLY.
Nuclear Technology is the worst idea I could ever possibly imagine. If the bombs don’t get us, the Nuclear Reactor Meltdowns will. Its just a matter of time before some one slips up on the job and we’re all history.
