My dog got bitten by a dugite yesterday and died suddenly. It was probably the most horrible thing I’ve ever had to experience.

Charley was a pitbull-mastiff and she was the biggest, most gentle, loving dog I’ve ever known. She played a huge part in my life for affection and company and I’m missing her a lot. Says a lot about the state of things when a dog provided me with more of a genuine outlet for affection than any woman I’ve ever dated. That dog loved me, and everyone else she met, unconditionally.

I’m pretty torn up about having to watch her die like that but I live with the fact that I gave her the absolute best life she could’ve possibly had. She was never mistreated and will always be in my heart. RIP gorgeous girl.

Society: I refuse your stick and carrot. If you try to beat or shame me you'd better take me down first time. If I want smoke blown up my ass I'll buy a cigar and a length of hose.

Do you have a photo you’d feel comfortable sharing?

Truly sorry for your loss brother, and what terrible circumstances to lose her. My own pup’s at the stage now where he’s starting to wind down with old age,
so I know the end is just around the corner. Trying to prepare for that is hard enough after all these years, but the thought of him dying in pain because of a venomous snake is unimaginable to me.

    That’s really sad news brother.

I can relate to the feeling. I lost a family dog while I was quite young but I remember feeling like I lost a limb.

Hang in there it gets better.

If it were a woman I’d have more to say but this is really genuine loss. Perhaps the real and only unconditional love source for a man.

I’ve been thinking about getting a dog when I retire … still on the fence about it.

I just can’t take them dying … or rather the thought of a drawn out painful death.

Im my past I would crumble everytime we brought our dogs to the vets.

I love dogs …. great buddies … a friend that’s got your back …. good listener …. personal trainer.

When they go it hurts like hell.

I don’t know if I could take that again. I just don’t know.

Charley has no pain now and is a rest. She is still with you …. all those memories. Her work is done but yours continues. You gave your best as did she.

It’s all any of us can do.

Take care and she will come to you with smiles.

My condolences. I’ve had several dogs come and go through my life, and I miss them all.

I could not do without them though. I picked the place I live with having a yard for a dog in mind.

Like the man said, “if dogs don’t go to heaven, then I want to go where they go.”

I am sad to hear of your good companion’s passing. Dogs really are man’s best friend. I washed them for a while and I had my favorites, and you never really get over seeing the owners after the passing. I had 23 dogs (regulars) die while I worked there. Since quitting that job about the only way I would probably have a canine companion of my own is if they found me. Seen to many die to go looking for that myself.

I do love the Staffordshire Terrier(I refuse to call them pitbulls)/Mastiff mixes, they are one of the sweetest mixes. But damn, that is one mix I would not want to, somehow, get on the bad side of.

Mike, sorry about the loss of your friend, can only state what everyone else feels, there is no more loyal companion in this world than a dog. Mourn your friend but don’t forget that when the time comes there is a dog out there that needs saving and you have the kind heart to do so.

A rescue society in a big city near you has your next canine companion: That is how mine was found.

I have three best friends, I’ve had dogs (mostly poodles) all my life, the oldest is 18 and lived this long only because of how hard I drove him, (strong, real strong), I’ll be making the same post in the near future. (very sorry for your loss…)
I know all about snakes, here’s what I almost stepped on a couple times! Then I spotted him while mowing the lawn (at my second house where grass sometimes grows tall between trips).
I Kill all threats to my health and safety, f~~~ the animal lovers!
I converted this snake Islamic style, turned him from a copperhead to a copperhead-less….. (a “Gravely®” mower) true to it name!

I wanted to add there is no shame in grieving. I lost my buddy three years ago and I can’t bring myself to get another.

It’s funny how women refer to men as dogs in a derogatory way, I have never seen or had more loving and faithful companions than my dogs. I lost my Husky/Malamute mix in a round about way because of my Ex. I feel your loss. I would suggest that when you feel that the time is right to get another one. While they will never take the place of Charley you will experience good times with a new dog. They ask for so little yet give so much, the complete opposite of every woman on this planet. A man and his dog can accomplish so many great things, and have fun doing it to boot!
