So after about a month of trying to get into World Of Warcraft, I decided to quit and uninstall the game. I don’t necessarily hate the game itself, I hate all the bulls~~~ modern games put you through.
The constant updating is driving me crazy. The long download times, and subscription you have to pay just to keep leveling up your character. It’s f~~~ing insane.
With older games, you never had to do any kind of this bulls~~~. All you had to do is pop in the game into the console/PC install it, and play it. That’s it.
Now a days, just with the constant updating alone, it’s just not f~~~ing worth it anymore. I keep my Ps3 offline for this very reason. Last week I connected it to the internet while playing a game, the game wanted to (guess what?) download a f~~~ing update!
I hate modern games with a passion for this very reason alone. What I actually plan on doing once I have enough money saved up, is to buy older consoles on Craigslist or Ebay and along with only playing older games on emulators.
I was never much of a gamer to begin with and now I know why. It’s because of bulls~~~ like this.
Once you have a Fleshlight real vaginas become worthless.
I have the same problem on World of Warships, everytime I turn it on, it wants to download another 5GB of updates and it saturates the network link in the process, causing everything else to be unstable.
It was even worse when by default it was torrenting updates to all these other people and making the connection virtually useless.
Well if you wanna play a game like World Of Warcraft, I’d suggest Guild Wars 2, it’s news, simpler, and easier to get into, plus it’s free to download and play.
As for the constant updates, I agree, but that’s because devs today are trying to push it out the door when it’s half finished.
You used to go to a store, buy a game, go home and play it.
Today, 6 months before it comes out they’re already asking for your money, “early access” or “pre-purchase” campaigns are the norm, they’ll throw in a bone just to convince you.
When it finally comes out it’s laughable unfinished and with day 1 updates.
That’s why I waited 7 months to buy Fallout 4, at this time I don’t mind waiting and being several months behind the new releases, because I know day 1 games are s~~~, if everyone would start doing the same you’d see a serious change in attitude, and don’t even let me start on DLC…In the old days if a game came with as many bugs as day 1 titles today, they’d need to order a recall, that alone could bankrupt a small company, that’s why old games were much more solid and bug free back then, because if they weren’t there would be serious consequences.
Today they just assume everyone is online, so f~~~ it, but what about people in poor countries? I’d imagine in places like India or Africa parents buying a “brand new” PS3 for their kids today with some games, probably hooking it up with a scart to a CRT TV, only to try to play a game that’s buggy as all hell and with no internet connection to get updates.

Never had a problem with Steam, well with mobile broadband its s~~~.
A MGTOW is a man who is not a woman's bitch!
I just avoid multiplayer and normally only buy single player games on steam once they’ve been out for a year or so and then buy the game of the year edition when it goes for sale. I don’t have internet at home, so I’ve never been a big buyer of games that need constant updating.

I gave up on multiplayer years ago – aside from older games played together by small communities. The behavior of people online is just atrocious.
Don’t have to go far to find a COD video with people trolling others, people crying, screaming, ranting, expressing extreme rage, cussing, swearing, crying. It’s just too much.
@ Rennie
I know exactly what you ate talking about. I play games for fun, not to get bitched at for not understanding how the game perfectly the first couple of times I’ve played. Too much drama. I’m also the type that likes to enjoy the artistic aspects of the game. Sometimes I just like to just look around the game world and appreciate all the hard work the developers put into it.
@ Anthony
I forgot to mention that I have an old console like you mentioned getting. A PS2 and a super Nintendo. Before my cousin went to elementary school (recently), I would occasionally babysit him and play some of the old games with him. Going back to the old games can be fun, but I prefer modern so I don’t do it often.

I remember on Battlefield 2, drawing some peoples ire for driving around more than running into the flag pole meatgrinder and dying. Like you I sometimes just like to study the details of the map.
and don’t even let me start on DLC…
DLC is one of the worst aspects of modern gaming. I don’t even want to start ranting on how bad it is.

Steam is a great concept, but the actual implementation of it is complete s~~~. I’ve heard horror stories of accounts that were worth 100s if not 1000s of dollars getting randomly shut down for no reason or without warning. Not to mention Steam is one of the worst when it comes to updating constantly.

Older games are pretty awesome, but I don’t play them often because I’ve already played so many of them that I remember all the details of the game. Like Pokemon Red for instance. I love the game, but I remember almost every aspect of it.

I hate those types of environments as well. It’s one reason I never got into big online MMOs in the first place.

When it comes to DLC I just wait for it to come out all at once in a bundle. I don’t buy individual DLC modules.

Probably the only MMO I ever played was Runescape and that was in the early 00’s. Golden age of internet stuff. But I haven’t played that in a long, long time though.
World of Nerdcraft sucks anyway!
I wish I could find about 3-8 people for a good old LAN-PARTY round of classic UNREAL TOURNAMENT or QUAKE III!
Resident Evil hasn’t been the same as it was when I was a teenager in the late 90s for over the past 10 years since Resident Evil 4. I liked back in the day when you were shooting zombies, lickers, giant spiders, tyrants and crows in a mansion or in Raccoon City with fixed camera angles. Their first mistake is ending Umbrella Corporation era and first replacing it with a religious cult, and then former Umbrella execs continuing on the Umbrella legacy. Resident Evil 5 was OK, but I didn’t like having a female partner character I had to deal with, because she would get in my way, and screw things up. Just like Tails in the old Sonic The Hedgehog games. So the golden age of Resident Evil is gone forever.
Tomb Raider was another game I liked, they ruined since the reboot.
I don’t like those games where they want you to buy the game in parts with those downloads. I mean after you buy the main game, you then need to buy maps, characters, videos, levels, weapons, costume packs and stuff. By the time you buy the entirety of the game, with some games you bought it twice. At least back in the pre-PS3/XBOX360 era of games, you bought the game only once and nothing else with it.
I fell for that download scam once with Resident Evil 5. I had the original, then they came out with a Gold Edition which was 2 levels and Versus Mode. I bought the downloads rather than buying the whole game with the added features again. Then I decided to cash in on the original version disc at GameStop (got a lousy buck for it) so I can put money towards putting it on the PS3 system. After all I been through to get Resident Evil 5 where I’m at now with it, it coasted me over $100.
So yeah the games today are a joke. I don’t even bother to play online with someone, because of the assholes there are out there. I don’t want to play a game to be f~~~ed around with; I play games to enjoy the gameplay, the HD and the surround sound.
Back in the day, games were more relaxing, slower paced and fun. Now games are too fast and have too much going on, and that just make the game stressful and overly competitive, on top of those online trolls to go with it.
Video games have the same thing in common with Nickelodeon, Disney, music, movies, Anime, TV shows; they’re golden ages ended with the millennium. After 2000, everything started to go to hell.

Rennie is right about the dlc stuff. I used to have a low opinion of dlc too, but then I changed my point of view.
Me: So you want to release the game before it is finished? Cool. I’ll just wait till you are ready to sell it to me under the “game of the year” or “legendary” name. Then I can get the full game during the next steam Christmas or summer sale and save a lot of money.
The only game I have paid full price for is Fallout 4 and the season pass when it was $90. Next time though (for elder scrolls vi), I’ll probably just wait for the bundle. Playing a game new can be cool but I’d rather just be patient. I don’t regret getting F4 so early, but dealing with the updates could get annoying. When it first came out, I had to play it on all low settings. Last time I played it, I had it on high. It took hem a month or so to optimize the game. Like I said: you have to view new games like they are all early access games. If you want the complete game, wait for the bundle.

Like ARMA and ARMA II, it took them a while to iron out all the bugs. But it’s a pretty good game now.
The only game I paid full price for when new was Battlefield 2, at $70.00 CDN and that was 11 years ago now.
I’m a Doom veteran, ultraviolent without cheats (only save/load). After that, better graphics, but same thing. Retried with FEAR at a bargain price, but quit in the middle of the game. And then the “alwys online” s~~~. As long as the vendor decides to let his servers run. Damn, if I pay, I want to play for as many decades as I like.
Anyone remembers the days of “Secret of Monkey Island”? Crappy graphics by today’s standards, but so much fun in it! They don’t make things like that anymore.
So why not dropping the s~~~? What about going old-school, e.g. with chess? They got awesome stuff at Regency Chess. OK, a worthy luxury chess set is at some hundred $, but it is bug-free and will work fine 20 years from now. Besides, without kids, that’s just one month of saved alimony.
Real gaming doesn’t need a computer.

I do, that was a good game. Infact all of the Monkey Island games up to an including The Curse Of Monkey Island were good. I never got around to properly playing Escape From Monkey Island though.
Love that intro tune.
Xonotic is probably the only online game I play with people. No young morons, and almost no women.
Actions have consequences and consequences have prices. Cause and effect at work.
Oh yeah.. just give it a bit more metal touch, Let Finntroll go Carribean:
Secret of Monkey Island – Metal Version
(and why do the BB standard “video” tags not work in this forum?!)

Or micro-transactions. I understand if it’s in a free to play game, but if they’re in a paid game, it’s annoying as f~~~. I also hate games where you can essentially pay to win. WoW is sort of like that. You can buy a level 100 character boost. That’s annoying as f~~~ and it makes me not to even want to level my character, because if you can pay to level it, then what’s the point?

I hate that as well. That’s my biggest gripe with Steam. You always have to be online to play the free games or even the games you pay for. I at least want an actual digital copy I can do anything I want with any time I want. I don’t want to have to depend on their servers just to play it.
Once you have a Fleshlight real vaginas become worthless.
That’s why I don’t use Steam. They want my money, so either they make me an offer mode I’m fine with, or there will be no deal. Since there are so many vendors these days who insist on absurd conditions, I save an incredible amount of money.
The most recent game I actually bought was a chess program. The developer only put in a tiny amount of copy protection. You give him your name, and you get a code. You can install it on as many computers in your home as you want. No further server side interaction required.
In an interview, he said he easily could have gone for more copy protection, but the crackers would have bypassed it anway, so he just would have annoyed his paying customers, which he considered as stupid. That was a major reason why I happily paid out a hundred bucks. He had made good work without the intent to annoy me for paying.
