According to wikipedia, women make up around 60% of all post secondary university participants. If you go in the bottom of the page, it says that 15 year old girls out perform males in reading, math and science literacy in almost all over the world. So my question is, with all the potential that these girls are suppose to have, why is it that a lot more girls are willing to go to a non-stem degree (science, technology, engineering, math) since it is well known fact that there is a big shortage of females who go get a stem degree in general? Maybe there would be many girls who would maybe become nurses as a science major but in the top of my head, that would be about it in terms of dominating any stem degrees at all. Why would females who have more potential and also have a higher post secondary education turn out in participation than guys would actually do the easier degrees than degrees that have a lot of hard math? Why even go to university at all when you will just get an easier degree that would probably not even help you make more money per hour unless you wish to become a teacher or an even administrative assistant? If they choose any major at all, they would end up with a lot of debt and they better make more money per hour to have an easier time in paying it off. I hear that a bachelor’s degree in psychology is an extremely popular degree for many of the female students where the math is not very hard at all. Why is it very popular for female students? I don’t know! Many people who have a degree in psychology do not even end up working in their field, unless they maybe go on to get a phd on it.

The link has info that about 87 percent of the psychology majors are female if anyone here wishes to have proof.

I don’t know about other countries but in the UK once you have been accepted to a university you are free to choose whatever degree you want to. Most women choose not to take up STEM courses. The Brunel university offers grants for engineering, to women only, to try and even up the disparity. Even with this incentive they choose not to. The argument is we need more female engineers when in reality we simply need more engineers.
As a cabbie in Portsmouth with 28,000 students I have never come across a woman studying engineering, maths, science. They mostly do business studies and for some reason, pharmacy seems very popular.

Women are so bad, if they changed the law so I kept the house, I still wouldn't marry one. I'd rather be homeless.

You know, I think that girls just want to get an easy bachelor degree because they think that with any bachelor degree, their market place value in the dating world would go up because they would consider themselves upper class. Once they get the degree, it is only a matter of time when they trap a guy who is actually gonna be the one that is going to be the breadwinner in the relationship with her.

The educational patterns of females is complex, yet I do not think it can be answered with just one simple conclusion. The statistics always have a story to tell, as it shows their patterns during a country’s social development. The question that always resides in the back of the head is, why do females educate themselves, shortly followed by what kind of academia they prefer.

From the top of my head, this is why they study:

    1. To increase their SMV (sexual/social market value)
    2. To have a higher chance of meeting a male student with great potential (husband-material)
    3. To have at least some kind of degree to fall back upon if the times turns sour (government-sector)
    4. To nourish a personal interest (usually something that speaks to the female nature)

And what they tend to study:

    1. Psychology-related subjects (as mentioned)
    2. Economics/administration, usually in the regard of how a business is structured and managed (where there is little math)
    3. Nurse-subjects
    4. Biology/pharmacy-subjects

With the knowledge of female nature in the back of the head, it is easy to say how the females benefit from what they are studying:

    1. [Psychology] Helps the woman know what goes on in the head of other people. This is very useful in regards to her skill in manipulation. To manipulate is to be female.
    2. [Economics/administration] Helps the woman to be better at organizing things. All women likes the though of organization (in general), just think of how much effort she puts in when re-organizing the living room. To be good in this field, is to exert control. Control (over others) is a female trait.
    3. [Nurse] Speaks to the female need to take care of others. To take care of others [patients] is a way to train herself to the time when she have children. This trait was vital in the past to ensure the survival of her children and thus the clan as a whole.
    4. [Biology/pharmacy] Goes hand in hand with the nursing field. These two academical fields is just two other aspects of the care-giver trait.

STEM fields in general do not speak to the female nature, and thus they tend to choose it away. I studied this question in light of evolutionary biology and social structures, which seems to be the core regarding this topic.

A STEM major? But math is tough! Besides, who wants to marry a science nerd? I wanna marry a lawyer! Preferably a mergers and acquisitions specialist who makes millions!

Einherjar and RoyDal seem to have good points. Thank you Einherjar by the way for making such a long and insightful post. As for RoyDal, I am sure he is use to getting a lot of praise for his posts because I believe he has like like over 10000 likes by now.

Women choose to study what they like.
Feminists try to get them to do stem but they are just not as interested .

Porn star Mercedes Carrera is a Stem grad and worked in a Stem field but she decided she enjoyed sucking and f~~~ing on camera better than working and standing around in a lab coat all day.

I agree to the fact that higher STEM fieds just do not agree to female nature. I had a childhood female friend who wanted to be a computer engineer since kindergarten; she even got close to an internship; but dropped out (3 years of university years wasted) and chose to study animal husbandry because of some life-changing experience with puppies in Mauritus.

Though nobody would mind if there were more female students in STEM fields, I think women know that they are just not apt enough to do all the ‘brainwork’ when they coud easily do something else that fits their lifestyle.

I honesty do not believe women ‘fear’ the STEM fieds ’cause there are more boys over there (sme s~~~ propagated by some s~~~ty feminist). They just don’t choose to live their life wondering about the secrets of the universe when they could ‘heal the word and strive for peace and equality’.

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
